PSLE is administered by SEAB on behalf of MOE and reported on the AL (Achievement Level) system since 2021. Each of the four subjects (English, Mother Tongue, Mathematics, Science) is scored AL1 to AL8, with cut-offs roughly: AL1 = 90+, AL2 = 85-89, AL3 = 80-84, AL4 = 75-79, AL5 = 65-74, AL6 = 45-64.
The four-subject total AL determines secondary-school posting through the centralised choice-and-cut-off system; AL totals of 4-8 sit in the IP / top-school band, 9-12 the next tier, 13-20 the express stream, 21+ the Normal Academic / Technical streams. The arithmetic of posting is unforgiving, moving any one subject by one AL band can swing the secondary-school choice. Our PSLE home tutors run weekly diagnostic-led lessons mapped to the school topical schedule and to the four-subject AL target the family is aiming for.
The four subjects move at different rates. English Composition (Paper 1) and English Continuous Writing band shifts need long lead times, a P5 mid-year start gives the realistic 12-14 months for the band to actually move. Math Paper 2 problem-sum heuristics shift faster (3-6 months) once model-drawing discipline is internalised. Science open-ended question style is the most teachable component (because the SEAB mark scheme rewards specific verbs: state, explain, predict, compare). Higher Chinese / Mother Tongue moves slowest of all and is the limiting subject for HMTL-required IP admissions.
We sequence the P5-P6 calendar accordingly: heavier on English and Math through P5 Term 3 to P6 Term 2, then a Science and MTL push from P6 Term 2 prelim onwards. By the September P6 prelim, every student in our programme has completed at least 6 timed full-paper mocks per subject, the September prelim is the strongest predictor of actual PSLE outcome.
A practical timeline: students who lift from AL5 or AL6 to AL3 typically start a structured PSLE programme by mid-P5 (June or July), giving 12 to 14 months for foundation building, heuristic mastery and progressive past-paper exposure. Students who start only in P6 January can still see one band of improvement (for example AL5 to AL4) but the realistic ceiling drops sharply if the foundation gaps are wide.
We schedule the four subjects to weight Math and English most heavily in the first 6 months (because the Continuous Writing band and the Paper 2 long question both need long lead times to shift), then balance with Science and Chinese in the second half. By the September P6 prelim, every student in our programme will have completed at least 6 full mock papers per subject under timed conditions. The September prelim result is the strongest predictor of the actual PSLE outcome.
Is Your Child Stressed About PSLE?
PSLE is a critical milestone that determines secondary school placement. Are you worried about:
Your P5 or P6 child struggling with challenging PSLE Math problem sums and heuristics.

How our PSLE coaching works
Diagnostic-led, weakest subject first
A first-lesson diagnostic sets an accurate AL target; coaching weights the weakest subject, where a one-band gain moves the posting score most.
P5 foundation, P6 drilling
P5 closes content gaps; P6 shifts to timed papers, so the exam year is drilling, not catching up.
September prelim as the to-do list
The prelim is the strongest predictor of PSLE; its weak spots become the precise revision plan for the final weeks.

A Note from Anchal: "Hi! My name is Anchal, and I have been teaching online since I began my undergraduate studies, giving me over four years of tutoring experience. During this time, I have worked with students from primary school to pre-university level, teaching Mathematics, Science, and English. I enjoy helping students build confidence in their abilities while making learning engaging and enjoyable. I am currently pursuing a Master of Science at Nanyang Technological University (NTU), Singapore. Before this, I completed my Bachelor's degree in Electronics and Communication Engineering. I have also had the opportunity to work as a research intern at the Indian Institute of Science (IISc). Additionally, I have achieved a strong IELTS score, which reflects my proficiency in English communication. My teaching philosophy is simple: strong fundamentals are the foundation of long-term success. Once students truly understand the basics, they can apply their knowledge confidently to solve more challenging problems. I believe learning should never feel like a burden. Instead, I strive to create a friendly, supportive, and comfortable environment where students feel encouraged to ask questions, discuss their doubts, and even talk about challenges they face in school. Every lesson is tailored to the student's pace and learning style, making each session interactive, enjoyable, and productive. I look forward to connecting with you and helping you achieve your academic goals!"

PSLE Preparation Home Tuition Singapore: Frequently Asked Questions
When should PSLE preparation start?
▼
P5 for foundation building, P6 for revision and timed-paper practice. Students who close gaps in P5 reach P6 able to drill rather than catch up, which is where the bigger AL gains come from.
Which PSLE subject should we prioritise?
▼
Usually the weakest one, because secondary-school posting runs on the four-subject AL total, a one-band improvement in a weak subject moves the posting score more than polishing a strong subject.
How does PSLE AL scoring work?
▼
Each subject is graded AL1 (90+ marks) to AL8. The four subject ALs are summed into the PSLE Score; a lower total is better, and posting cut-offs sit in narrow bands.
How predictive is the P6 prelim?
▼
The September prelim is the strongest single predictor of the actual PSLE result. Its weak spots are best treated as a precise revision list for the final weeks.
