What is different about tuition in Tengah
Secondary school is out of town
Tengah has one school so far, Pioneer Primary. The nearest secondary schools are in Bukit Batok, Choa Chu Kang and Jurong West, and since 2024 each subject is taken at G1, G2 or G3 under Full Subject-Based Banding. How G1, G2 and G3 work.
A new school after the move
A child who changes school after the move can meet topics in a different order. Schools pace topics differently, so the first lessons check what the new school has already covered and fill any gaps before moving on. Primary Math tuition.
No MRT in the town yet
The Jurong Region Line will add stations in Tengah, and LTA now expects the first stage to open around mid-2028. Until then a centre class means a bus to Bukit Batok or Choa Chu Kang, which is why many families here prefer a tutor who comes home.
PSLE Math: Paper 1 has no calculator
PSLE Math has two papers of 50 marks each. Paper 1 (1 h 10 min) allows no calculator and has 18 multiple-choice and 12 short-answer questions. Paper 2 (1 h 20 min) allows one and has 15 short-answer and long questions. Each subject gets an Achievement Level from AL1 (90 marks and above) to AL8 (below 20). Marks of 92, 84, 74 and 61 give AL1, AL3, AL5 and AL6, a PSLE Score of 15. Tengah is Singapore's newest HDB town, built between Bukit Batok, Choa Chu Kang and Jurong West. It is planned as five districts, Plantation, Park, Garden, Brickland and Forest Hill, with a wide green Forest Corridor running through it, and many blocks were completed only in the last few years. The Jurong Region Line will have stations in Tengah but is still being built, so for now the nearest MRT stations are Bukit Batok and Choa Chu Kang. Tutors travel to your home, which saves a bus ride out of the estate.

Schools and exams in Tengah
Pioneer Primary School moved to Tengah Garden Avenue in 2026 and is the first school in the town. Two more primary schools are planned: Kranji Primary moves to a new Tengah campus in 2028, and ACS (Primary) opens a co-educational Tengah campus with its first P1 cohort in 2030.
Most other schools Tengah children attend are a short ride away in Bukit Batok West, Choa Chu Kang and Teck Whye: Princess Elizabeth Primary, Teck Whye Primary and Chua Chu Kang Primary at primary level, and Bukit Batok Secondary, Dunearn Secondary and Chua Chu Kang Secondary at secondary level. Millennia Institute and Jurong Pioneer Junior College are nearby for pre-university. Because the town is new and full of young families, most requests are P1 to P4 foundations, PSLE Math and English, and lower secondary Math.

MOE has named three primary schools for Tengah. Pioneer Primary moved in from Jurong West in 2026. Kranji Primary moves from Choa Chu Kang to a new Tengah campus in 2028, and parents register for that P1 intake in the 2027 P1 Registration Exercise. ACS (Primary) opens a co-educational Tengah campus in 2030, starting with P1 only. MOE says these dates can still change.
Which secondary schools are closest to Tengah?
There is no secondary school in Tengah yet. MOE lists Bukit Batok, Dunearn, Bukit View, Hillgrove and Swiss Cottage Secondary in Bukit Batok, and Chua Chu Kang, Kranji, Regent and Unity Secondary and Bukit Panjang Government High in Choa Chu Kang. Pioneer Primary has no affiliated secondary school, so Sec 1 posting depends on the PSLE score and the order of the six choices. How much does home tuition cost in Tengah?
The rate depends on the level and the tutor type, not the address, and matches the rate table on this page. P1 to P4: part-time S$25 to S$35, full-time S$35 to S$45 and ex-MOE S$50 to S$70 an hour.
