Primary 6 PSLE Maths is graded on the AL (Achievement Level) banded system: AL1 = 90+ marks, AL2 = 85–89, AL3 = 80–84, AL4 = 75–79, AL5 = 65–74, AL6 = 45–64. The AL3-vs-AL4 boundary near 80 marks is where many P6 cohorts cluster, and because secondary-school posting cut-offs sit in narrow AL totals, moving Maths one band can change the posting outcome. P6 is not a content year — the syllabus is complete by mid-year — it is a revision, heuristic-consolidation and timed-paper year.
Our P6 Maths home tutors run a first-lesson diagnostic against recent PSLE papers and the student's school topical-test record to set an accurate band target, then structure the year around it. The fastest-moving lever is the Paper 2 multi-step problem sum: students at the AL3–AL5 boundary usually lose marks not from concept gaps but from skipping the model-drawing setup and leaping to algebra. We drill against actual school prelim sets (Catholic High, Pei Chun Public, Tao Nan, Methodist Girls') whose phrasing is closest to the SEAB paper. By the September prelim every student has completed at least 6 timed full papers — the September prelim is the strongest predictor of the actual PSLE result.
