Secondary 4 is the O-Level Maths examination year for Express-stream students (Sec 5 for Normal Academic). The 4048 E-Math grade is one of the L1R5 components most JC admissions weight equally, and the 4049 A-Math grade is the single most-watched subject for the JC Science track — moving A-Math from B3 to A1 changes JC posting outcomes at the tight Hwa Chong / RI / NJC / Eunoia cut-offs. Sec 4 is a revision-and-drilling year: the syllabus is complete early, and marks are won through past-paper exposure and exam technique, not new content.
