School preliminary examination
A 'prelim' (preliminary examination) is a school-organised mock examination held a few weeks before the national PSLE / O-Level / A-Level. Used as the final practice run and for posting predictions to JC / Polytechnic.
In context
Top schools' prelim papers (e.g. Hwa Chong Institution, Raffles Institution, NJC for A-Level; Anglican High, Methodist Girls', Raffles Girls' for O-Level) circulate widely as tuition practice sets, they are typically harder than the actual national paper, which is the point.
