Secondary math in Singapore is one continuous four-year build, but it is assessed and decided in stages. Sec 1 installs the algebra that everything else assumes. Sec 2 extends it (simultaneous equations, quadratics, Pythagoras theorem, introductory trigonometry) and ends with the subject-combination decision that determines whether a student takes Additional Mathematics in Sec 3. Sec 3 and Sec 4 then split into E-Math for everyone and A-Math for the JC-bound, examined at O-Level, and for the cohorts now in lower secondary, the new Singapore-Cambridge SEC.

Our secondary math tuition is organised around this arc rather than around a single year: the tutor who fixes a Sec 2 quadratics gap is deliberately building the foundation the Sec 4 paper will assess, and parents get a per-term view of where the student sits against the pathway they want.

Level by level: Sec 1 maths tuition manages the primary-to-secondary transition (integers, algebraic expressions, linear equations, the end of bar models) — we run a dedicated programme for it. Sec 2 maths tuition is the pathway year: simultaneous equations, expansion and factorisation, quadratic graphs, direct and inverse proportion, congruence and similarity, trigonometric ratios, and the end-of-year exam that gates the A-Math option.

Sec 3 maths tuition splits by subject: E-Math (4052) moves into trigonometry applications, coordinate geometry and statistics, while A-Math (4049) opens with algebra at a much higher intensity, surds, indices, polynomials, and the binomial theorem. Sec 4 maths tuition is consolidation and exam technique: past-paper drilling, timing rhythm, and the working-shown discipline that banks method marks on both papers.

Rates for secondary maths home tuition in 2026: Sec 1-2 typically runs S$35-50 an hour with undergraduate tutors, S$50-65 with full-time tutors and S$60-80 with ex-MOE or NIE-trained teachers; Sec 3-4 (O-Level year) runs S$45-60, S$55-75 and S$70-95 respectively. You pay the tutor directly with no agency fee, and we re-match free if the fit is wrong. Most families keep the same tutor across multiple years, which is exactly what we recommend: the single biggest predictor of a smooth O-Level maths outcome is whether the Sec 1-2 foundations were secured by someone who knew what the Sec 4 paper would ask.

Where Secondary Math Goes Wrong

Four years is a long arc, and the failure points are predictable:

Sec 1: still solving like a P6 student while the school grades like a secondary school.

Sec 2: quadratics and factorisation gaps that quietly close the A-Math door.

Sec 3: chose A-Math but the algebra intensity is a shock; E-Math feels "fine" until trigonometry applications.

Sec 4: understands the content but loses 15-20 marks per paper to working, presentation and timing.

Across all years: WAs record early gaps that compound because the syllabus never pauses.

Parents only get a clear signal when a big exam goes wrong, which is the most expensive time to find out.

A tutor who owns the whole arc catches these at the cheap point, the term they appear, not the year they surface.

Our Secondary Math Tuition Programme

One programme, four stages, matched to the school scheme of work at every step:

1. Sec 1: The Transition Year

From bar models to algebra. See our dedicated Secondary 1 math tuition programme.

  • Integers, negative numbers, primes, HCF and LCM
  • Algebraic expressions and linear equations
  • Ratio, rate, percentage in secondary form
  • Functions, linear graphs and number patterns
  • Angles, polygons, perimeter and area
  • WA preparation from Term 1

2. Sec 2: The Pathway Year

The year that decides the A-Math option and the Sec 3 subject combination.

  • Simultaneous linear equations
  • Expansion, factorisation and algebraic fractions
  • Quadratic expressions, equations and graphs
  • Direct and inverse proportion
  • Pythagoras theorem and trigonometric ratios
  • Congruence, similarity and map scales

3. Sec 3-4: E-Math (4052)

The universal O-Level maths paper. Application questions decide the grade.

  • Trigonometry applications: bearings, 3D problems, sine and cosine rule
  • Coordinate geometry and graphs of functions
  • Statistics: cumulative frequency, standard deviation
  • Probability, sets and Venn diagrams
  • Matrices and vectors
  • Paper 1 and Paper 2 timing strategy

4. Sec 3-4: A-Math (4049)

The JC-gateway subject, algebra-heavy and unforgiving of gaps.

  • Surds, indices, polynomials and partial fractions
  • Binomial theorem
  • Trigonometric identities and equations
  • Differentiation and integration with applications
  • Coordinate geometry of circles
  • Proofs and the rigour the marking scheme expects

Why Parents Choose Our Secondary Math Tuition

Whole-Arc Tutors

Our secondary maths tutors teach Sec 1 through Sec 4, so this term's lesson is always building what the O-Level or SEC paper will actually assess.

Pathway Honesty

At the end of Sec 2 we tell parents plainly whether A-Math is the right call, based on the trajectory we have seen, not on optimism.

School-Scheme Alignment

Lessons follow your child's school scheme of work and WA calendar, reinforcing this week's classroom topic.

A Note from Anchal: "Hi! My name is Anchal, and I have been teaching online since I began my undergraduate studies, giving me over four years of tutoring experience. During this time, I have worked with students from primary school to pre-university level, teaching Mathematics, Science, and English. I enjoy helping students build confidence in their abilities while making learning engaging and enjoyable. I am currently pursuing a Master of Science at Nanyang Technological University (NTU), Singapore. Before this, I completed my Bachelor's degree in Electronics and Communication Engineering. I have also had the opportunity to work as a research intern at the Indian Institute of Science (IISc). Additionally, I have achieved a strong IELTS score, which reflects my proficiency in English communication. My teaching philosophy is simple: strong fundamentals are the foundation of long-term success. Once students truly understand the basics, they can apply their knowledge confidently to solve more challenging problems. I believe learning should never feel like a burden. Instead, I strive to create a friendly, supportive, and comfortable environment where students feel encouraged to ask questions, discuss their doubts, and even talk about challenges they face in school. Every lesson is tailored to the student's pace and learning style, making each session interactive, enjoyable, and productive. I look forward to connecting with you and helping you achieve your academic goals!"

Secondary Math Tuition Singapore: Frequently Asked Questions

How much does secondary math tuition cost in Singapore?

In 2026: Sec 1-2 runs S$35-50/hr with undergraduate tutors, S$50-65 with full-time tutors and S$60-80 with ex-MOE teachers. Sec 3-4 (O-Level year) runs S$45-60, S$55-75 and S$70-95 respectively. Parents pay the tutor directly, with no agency fee and a free re-match if the fit is wrong.

Should my child take E-Math only, or E-Math and A-Math?

A-Math keeps the JC science route and many poly courses comfortably open, but it is algebra-intensive and punishes weak Sec 2 foundations. The honest test is the Sec 2 end-of-year paper: a student solid on quadratics and factorisation can take A-Math with confidence; a student who scraped through will spend Sec 3 fighting two maths subjects at once. We advise per student, not by default.

Is sec 2 math tuition worth it if the big exams are years away?

Sec 2 is the highest-leverage year in secondary maths: it decides the A-Math option and lays the quadratics and trigonometry foundations that both O-Level papers assume. A term of tuition in Sec 2 routinely saves a year of remedial work in Sec 4.

Do you cover both G2 and G3 maths under Full SBB?

Yes. Tutors align to the subject level your child is taking, and where a student is positioned to move up a level, lessons target the school's criteria for that move.
