Secondary 4 is the O-Level Science examination year. The O-Level Science grade feeds the L1R5 score and, for students aiming at the JC Science track, the Sciences are the subjects JC admissions scrutinise most. Sec 4 is a revision-and-drilling year: the syllabus completes early, and marks are won through past-paper exposure, structured-answer technique, and — for Pure Sciences — the practical paper, which most students underprepare.
Our Sec 4 Science home tutors structure the year around the September prelim run-up, with weekly timed papers and detailed correction. The largest mark-losers at the C5–B3 boundary are the structured free-response questions: the SEAB mark scheme rewards specific command-word responses (state, explain, describe, compare, predict), and students who answer the wrong command word lose earned marks. We coach command-word discipline explicitly and drill against real school prelim papers whose difficulty exceeds the actual SEAB paper. For Pure Science candidates we run dedicated practical-technique lessons covering measurement, observation recording and the planning question. Outcomes vary by start grade and study time; tutors send weekly progress notes.
