Primary 6 PSLE Science is graded on the AL banded system, and the grade is decided overwhelmingly on the open-ended section rather than the MCQ section. The P6 syllabus completes the primary Science coverage — interactions within ecosystems, forces, energy forms and conversions, the environment — but P6 is fundamentally a revision and exam-technique year. The marks gap between AL2 and AL4 students is rarely a content gap; it is the ability to write open-ended answers that name the correct concept and the correct cause-and-effect chain in the words the mark scheme expects.
Our P6 Science home tutors run a first-lesson diagnostic against recent PSLE papers, then structure the year around open-ended question drilling: identifying the concept being tested, structuring the answer, and using precise process vocabulary (gains/loses heat, transfers energy, exerts a force). We drill against actual school prelim sets whose phrasing is closest to SEAB. By the September prelim every student has completed multiple timed full papers — the September prelim is the strongest predictor of the actual PSLE outcome. Outcomes vary by start grade and study time; tutors send weekly progress notes.
