H2 Economics (syllabus 9570) is the JC subject with the widest gap between effort and grade. Most students arrive with no prior economics, build a thick file of memorised notes, and then discover at the first exam that the paper does not reward recall.
The 9570 assessment is two papers: Paper 1 is case studies, two data-response cases with question parts climbing from data interpretation to 8-10 mark evaluative mini-essays, and Paper 2 is essays, three from six questions spanning microeconomics (markets, firms, market failure) and macroeconomics (national income, inflation, unemployment, trade, policy). The mark schemes reward a specific skill stack: applying theory to the given context, chains of reasoning drawn with correct diagrams, and evaluation that weighs alternatives and commits to a judgement.
Students who plateau at C or D are almost always writing descriptive answers, correct content, deployed without application or evaluation, which caps the band regardless of how much was memorised.
Our H2 Economics tutors coach the skill stack explicitly. Application: every concept is drilled against Singapore-relevant contexts (a small open economy with managed exchange rate policy is its own recurring case), because 9570 examiners consistently reward answers that engage the case material rather than reciting the textbook chapter. Reasoning chains: students learn to build the cause-and-effect links step by step, each link earning marks, with the right diagram (demand-supply, cost curves, AD-AS, exchange rate) drawn, labelled and actually referenced in the prose rather than decorating the margin.
Evaluation: the highest-band discriminator, taught as a method, criteria-based judgement (magnitude, time frame, stakeholder, context) rather than the token "however, it depends" sentence that earns nothing. Lessons run off the student's JC materials and prelim papers, RI, HCI, EJC and NJC set the hardest case studies and we use them deliberately in the final months.
Rates for H2 Economics home tuition in 2026 run S$55-75 an hour with undergraduate tutors, S$70-95 with full-time tutors and S$85-130 with ex-MOE or NIE-trained JC Economics teachers. You pay the tutor directly, with no agency fee and a free re-match if the fit is wrong. Two timing notes. First, JC1 economics grades are usually poor across the cohort, the subject is new to everyone, so a weak JC1 result is a signal to fix technique, not a verdict on ability.
Second, because economics technique transfers across topics (the same evaluation method serves micro and macro), coached improvement tends to arrive in steps rather than gradually: one term of proper case-study method typically moves the grade a full band, which is why H2 Econs is among the most tuition-responsive JC subjects.
Why H2 Economics Grades Plateau
The subject is new to everyone at JC1, so technique gaps hide behind effort. The patterns we see most often:
Thick, beautifully organised notes, and descriptive answers that cap at the B-C boundary.
Case-study answers ignore the case material and recite the textbook instead.
Diagrams are drawn but never referenced in the written argument, earning nothing.
Evaluation is a token "however" sentence rather than a criteria-based judgement.
Reasoning jumps steps, so 6 marks of chain earn 2.
Time management collapses on Paper 2 because three essays in 2h15 was never drilled.
These are technique gaps, and 9570 technique is explicitly teachable. Content alone has never produced an A in this subject.

- Micro essay planning against past questions
2. Macroeconomics Mastery
The Singapore-context half where application marks live.

The data-response method from extraction to evaluation.
- Data and trend interpretation with economic vocabulary
- Using the case material explicitly in every answer part
- Mark-allocation reading: what 2, 4, 8 and 10 marks demand
- Evaluative mini-essays under time pressure

Why JC Students Choose Our H2 Economics Tuition
9570-Specialist Tutors
Our tutors teach the current H2 Economics syllabus and mark practice work to its band descriptors, students see exactly why an answer sits in its band.
Singapore-Context Application
The exchange-rate-centred small-open-economy context recurs throughout 9570. We drill it deliberately, because application marks decide the middle bands.
Technique Transfers, Grades Step Up
The same evaluation method serves micro and macro, so coached improvement arrives in steps, one term of method typically moves a full band.

A Note from Joanne: "I came from Nanyang Girls High School, and am currently a Hwa Chong JC graduate who attained all As (90rp) in Econs, Math, Literature, Geography (H1) and General Paper. I have taught at Private International Schools, Primary School Grades Booster Lessons, and even in Taiwan before, handling students with various learning difficulties, and students’ age ranging from 6 to 18. My students consistently show improvement in grades, and grow to enjoy the subject more. I go beyond the lesson, providing options to work together with the student to build study plans, strategies, and I remain online throughout the week for students to submit additional work for marking, or to ask questions. I hope to help your child reach their fullest potential in the subject, making learning fun and interesting whilst building the right discipline and study habits! I will share my experiences getting my grades up from Ds to As within 3 months, and if I can do it, your child can too!"

H2 Economics Tuition Singapore: Frequently Asked Questions
How much does H2 economics tuition cost in Singapore?
▼
In 2026, H2 Economics home tuition runs S$55-75/hr with undergraduate tutors, S$70-95 with full-time tutors and S$85-130 with ex-MOE JC Economics teachers. Parents pay the tutor directly, with no agency fee and a free re-match if the fit is wrong.
My child failed JC1 economics. How worried should we be?
▼
Less than you think, and more than doing nothing. Economics is new to the entire cohort at JC1, so early failure usually reflects unlearned technique rather than unsuitability. But the technique does not fix itself: case-study application and evaluation are taught skills, and JC1 is the cheap time to install them.
What is the difference between H1 and H2 Economics tuition?
▼
H1 Economics (8843) covers a reduced syllabus, mainly case studies without the full essay paper, while H2 (9570) has both case studies and three-essay Paper 2. Our tutors coach both; the case-study method is shared, and H2 adds the essay and evaluation depth. Tell us which your child takes and the programme adjusts.
Is H2 Economics tuition worth it compared to just studying the notes harder?
▼
For this subject specifically, yes, because the grade ceiling is set by technique, not content volume. A student with complete notes and descriptive technique caps around B-C. The mark schemes reward application, reasoning chains and evaluation, and those are methods a specialist teaches in weeks, not qualities that emerge from re-reading notes.

Content Has Never Produced an A in H2 Economics
The A-band is a technique band: application, reasoning chains and evaluation. All three are teachable methods.
H2 Economics specialists are matched within 48 hours. One term of method work before prelims is the realistic window for a full band move.
