Best Chemistry Tuition Centres in Singapore (2027): 10 Compared

Written and reviewed by Theon Teo, Founder · editorial policy

Ten chemistry tuition centres in Singapore side by side, for SEC Pure and Combined Chemistry and H2 Chemistry: published fees turned into a per-hour cost, class sizes, branches with the nearest MRT, trial terms, questions to ask, and what the K324 and 9476 papers test.

The best chemistry tuition centre depends on the level and the gap. For an A-Level examiner teaching both SEC and H2, look at The Chemistry Practice (Bugis and Kovan). For H2 only, with one teacher for every class and the lowest H2 fee, look at Chemistry Guru (Bishan, S$280 a month online). For practical work with your own apparatus, look at Uptas (Bedok and Thomson). For separate Combined Science Chemistry classes, look at Mr Khemistry (Bukit Timah and Tampines). For the smallest published class, SmartLab caps customised classes at 6, and it has a Woodlands branch in the north. The lowest published secondary fee is AO Studies in Bugis, S$320 for four 2-hour lessons.

This guide lists each centre's fees exactly as published, then works out a comparable cost per hour, because centres quote per lesson, per month or per term. Every fact was read on the centre's own website on 7 November 2026. If a fact is not on the centre's site, we say "not published" rather than guess.

How we chose these centres

We searched Google for "chemistry tuition centre", "best chemistry tuition singapore", "o level chemistry tuition", "h2 chemistry tuition centre" and "sec 3 chemistry tuition". We noted the centres that rank and the ones that other "top chemistry tuition" lists name, then kept centres that pass all four tests below.

  1. Teaches chemistry as a named programmeA dedicated Sec 3, Sec 4 or JC chemistry class, not a general science or "all subjects" class.
  2. Publishes its programmeThe website shows at least the fee, the timetable or the named teacher for chemistry.
  3. Runs active branchesIt lists a current address, and most list a 2027 timetable.
  4. Spread of level, area, price and styleTogether the 10 cover Pure Chemistry, Combined Science and H2, small and large classes, on site and online, and a range of fees.

All facts were checked on 7 November 2026. Fees change, often each January, so confirm the current figure before you pay. No centre paid to appear here, and the detail section is in alphabetical order, not a ranking. If you want centres for several JC subjects, see our JC tuition guide. For physics and biology too, see our science tuition guide, and for all secondary subjects, our secondary tuition guide.

The 10 centres in detail

AO Studies

What is distinctive. A small secondary physics and chemistry centre founded in 2012 by Joseph Ang, who holds a Chemical Engineering degree from NTU and a PGDE from NIE, and taught in MOE schools for 4 years. It teaches both Pure and Combined O-Level Chemistry, and states no registration fee, no deposit, no material fee and no withdrawal notice period.

Suits: a Sec 3 or Sec 4 student who wants a simple, low monthly cost in the city. May not suit: a family that needs weekday slots, since the published chemistry classes run on Saturday (Sec 3) and Sunday (Sec 4).

Fees as published: S$320 for 4 lessons or S$780 for 10 lessons, each lesson 2 hours. A trial lesson is offered at no charge.

Branch: 420 North Bridge Road #06-10, North Bridge Centre, about 5 minutes from Bugis and City Hall MRT.

Website: aostudies.com.sg

Ask at the trial: Is this class Pure or Combined Chemistry, or both together? How many of the 14 places are taken? Who teaches if Mr Ang is away?

Chemistry Guru

What is distinctive. H2 Chemistry is the only subject, and the founder, Maverick Puah, teaches every class himself with no other tutors. He was a PSC teaching scholar, holds a BSc (Hons) in Chemistry from NUS and a PGDE from NIE, taught in a junior college, and founded the centre in 2010. Weekly students get WhatsApp consultation, and recordings cover missed lessons.

Suits: a JC student who wants one teacher's notes and method from JC1 to the A-Level, at a low monthly fee. May not suit: a secondary student or an H1 student, since the centre teaches H2 only.

Fees as published: S$360 for a 4-week month or S$450 for a 5-week month at Bishan, with 2-hour weekly lessons. Online is S$280 or S$350, with 1 hour 45 minute lessons. No administrative or material fees, and missed lessons are not prorated. A trial costs S$50 at Bishan or S$35 online. The 2027 JC1 classes start on 7 and 9 January 2027.

Branch: Blk 112 Bishan Street 12, #01-20, within walking distance of Bishan MRT.

Website: chemistryguru.com.sg

Ask at the trial: Is this a weekday class of about 4 to 6 or a weekend class of 10 to 12? How long are recordings kept? How is the Paper 4 practical prepared for?

Ingel Soong

What is distinctive. A boutique centre in Tampines led by Ingel Soong, a former NUS tutor, teaching chemistry, physics and maths in small groups. Beside the weekly H2 class, it sells H2 Chemistry topic workshops in five bundles, for example atomic structure, bonding and the gaseous state in 10 hours, or organic carbonyl and nitrogen compounds in 16 hours.

Suits: an east-side student who wants a small group and a targeted topic workshop before promos or the A-Level. May not suit: a family on a tight budget, since its published group fees are the highest here.

Fees as published: S$560 a month for Sec 3 or IP and O-Level chemistry, S$640 a month for JC1 and S$720 for JC2, each 4 lessons of 2 hours. H2 workshops cost S$600 to S$960 in a group. No registration fee, deposit or material fee. Class size and trial terms are not published.

Branch: Block 432 Tampines Street 41 (Tampines East MRT, Downtown Line).

Website: ingelsoong.com

Ask at the trial: How many students are in the group? Is a trial lesson possible, and what does it cost? Which workshop fits my child's weakest topic?

Mr Khemistry

What is distinctive. The founder, Eric Kua, is a former MOE junior college teacher with about 20 years of chemistry teaching, a BSc in Chemistry from NUS and a PGDE from NIE. He has written four H2 Chemistry assessment books and built KhemBank, a question bank. Secondary teachers include Ms Jasmine and Ms Kelly, each with 10 or more years in MOE schools.

Suits: a Combined Science student who wants a class that follows the combined syllabus, and families in the east or near Beauty World. May not suit: a family that wants to pay monthly, since fees are collected by term.

Fees as published: O-Level S$90 per 2-hour lesson, plus a S$120 registration and materials fee. JC S$120 per 2-hour lesson, plus a S$150 registration and materials fee. Trial lessons cost S$90 (Pure or Combined), S$110 (IP) and S$120 (JC). No deposit. Missed lessons are not refunded, but the recording is shared.

Branches: 170 Upper Bukit Timah Road #02-63, Bukit Timah Shopping Centre (1 minute from Beauty World MRT). 201A Tampines Street 21 (7 minutes from Tampines East MRT). Every 2027 slot can also be taken online.

Website: mrkhemistry.com

Ask at the trial: Which teacher takes this Combined or Pure slot? How many students are in it? What does the registration fee cover?

Seb Academy

What is distinctive. A chemistry specialist run by its founder, Mr Sebastian Lim, who teaches Sec 3 and Sec 4 O-Level and IP Chemistry. Lessons use experiments aimed at the practical exam (titration, qualitative analysis and planning), homework is marked weekly, and a separate practical class is offered. H2 is taught by Mr Lim and Mr Sam Lee. The centre states a 98.2% A or B rate for its 2019 O-Level classes.

Suits: a Pure Chemistry student who wants practical exam preparation, near Bishan or Beauty World. May not suit: a student who needs replacement classes, since the centre offers swaps (2 a term) instead of replacements.

Fees as published: Secondary fees start from S$360 (Sec 3 or IP) and S$400 (Sec 4 or IP), collected monthly, with no material or administrative fees. The site does not say what period the figure covers. 2026 JC fees are S$100 a lesson (JC1) and S$110 (JC2) before May, rising to S$110 and S$120 from May. A trial costs one lesson's fee. No deposit.

Branches: 505 Bishan Street 11, #01-432 (3 minutes from Bishan MRT). Bukit Timah Shopping Centre #05-04, 170 Upper Bukit Timah Road (2 minutes from Beauty World MRT).

Website: seb-academy.com

Ask at the trial: Does the S$360 cover a month of four lessons? Is the Saturday Sec 3 slot 1.5 or 2 hours? How many practical sessions come before the SEC practical paper?

SG Physics, Chemistry & Math

What is distinctive. A secondary science and maths centre with a large named chemistry team, including Ms Loh Zhi Hui (ASEAN Scholar, MOE Teaching Award, taught at National JC and NUS High), Mr Julian Kay (MSc in Chemistry, taught at Hwa Chong and RGS) and Ms Mary Heng (ex-MOE Senior Teacher). What the chemistry exams actually test

From 2027, the O-Level is replaced by the Singapore-Cambridge Secondary Education Certificate (SEC). Chemistry 6092 becomes G3 Chemistry K324, Science (Physics, Chemistry) 5086 becomes K326 and Science (Chemistry, Biology) 5088 becomes K328. Our SEC grading guide explains how the new results are reported.

SEC G3 Chemistry (K324), Pure Chemistry

PaperTypeTimeMarksWeight
Paper 140 multiple choice questions1 hour4030%
Paper 2Structured and free response. Section A 70 marks, including a data-based question of 8 to 12 marks. Section B, answer 1 of 2 questions for 10 marks1 hour 45 min8050%
Paper 3Practical1 hour 50 min4020%

In the theory papers, about 45% of marks test knowledge with understanding (about 15% is recall) and about 55% test handling information and solving problems. The 12 topics sit in three sections: matter (experimental chemistry, particles, bonding), chemical reactions (calculations, acids and bases, qualitative analysis, redox, the Periodic Table, energetics, rates) and chemistry in a sustainable world (organic chemistry, air quality). The Periodic Table is printed in Papers 1 and 2, so practise reading it with our O-Level Chemistry Periodic Table.

Combined Science Chemistry (K326 or K328). The chemistry part sits in Paper 3, 1 hour 15 minutes for 65 marks and 32.5% of the grade. Paper 1 is 40 multiple choice questions across both sciences (20%), and Paper 5 is a 1 hour 30 minute practical test across both sciences (15%). That is why a centre's Combined class should follow the combined syllabus, not the Pure one. Our Combined Science guide explains the choice.

H2 Chemistry (9476)

PaperTypeTimeMarksWeight
Paper 130 multiple choice questions, 5 to 8 of the multiple completion type1 hour3015%
Paper 2Structured questions, including 20 to 25 marks of data-based questions2 hours7530%
Paper 3Section A 55 marks (3 to 4 questions). Section B, answer 1 of 2 questions for 20 marks2 hours7535%
Paper 4Practical2 hours 30 min5020%

Assessment objectives are weighted 36% knowledge with understanding, 44% handling, applying and evaluating information, and 20% experimental skills. The content is built on three core ideas (matter, structure and properties, transformation) with extension topics in aqueous solutions, organic chemistry, electrochemistry and transition elements. A Data Booklet with the Periodic Table is provided for the theory papers.

For syllabus support, see our O-Level Chemistry tuition page and H2 Chemistry tuition page. Our guides on how to score A1 in O-Level Chemistry and how to score an A in H2 Chemistry cover paper strategy, and the A-Level grading system guide explains how an H2 grade feeds rank points.

Centre, home tutor or online?

The cheapest hour is usually a group class or a live online class. The most tailored hour is one-to-one. Here is how the published centre fees above compare with the rates on our rate card.

A worked example for Sec 4: a weekly 2-hour class at S$90 a lesson costs S$360 for four weeks. One 1.5-hour lesson a week with a full-time tutor at S$45 to S$65 an hour costs S$67.50 to S$97.50 a week, or S$270 to S$390 for four weeks. Many families keep a centre class for practical work and peers, and add a few one-to-one lessons before the prelims.

How to choose a chemistry tuition centre

  1. Match the class to the examPure Chemistry (K324), Combined Science (K326 or K328) or H2 (9476) need different classes. Ask which syllabus the class follows.
  2. Start from the gapLook at the last school test. Losing marks on mole calculations, on organic reactions, on data-based questions or on the practical? Pick a centre whose method fits.
  3. Compare cost per hourTurn every quote into a cost per hour, then add registration, materials, deposit and GST. Our table does this for the published fees.
  4. Check the class size for your slotAsk for the number in the class your child would join, not the average.
  5. Book one trialTrials range from no charge to a full lesson fee. Ask what it costs and whether it counts toward the first month.
  6. Review after one monthCompare the next school test with the last. If nothing has changed after 6 to 8 lessons, ask the centre for a plan or switch.

Trial-lesson checklist

  • Who teaches this class for the whole year, and who covers when they are away?
  • How many students are in this exact slot?
  • Does the class follow K324, the combined syllabus, or 9476?
  • How often do students do hands-on practical work before the practical paper?
  • Are timed data-based questions set and marked?
  • How are questions answered between lessons?
  • What does a missed lesson cost, and is there a recording or swap?
  • What notice is needed to stop, and is any deposit refunded?

Common questions

How much does chemistry tuition at a centre cost in Singapore?

Among the centres we checked on 7 November 2026 that publish fees, secondary classes cost about S$320 to S$560 for four lessons, or S$39 to S$70 an hour. H2 classes cost about S$280 to S$720 a month, or S$40 to S$90 an hour, before any registration fee, deposit or GST.

What is the best chemistry tuition centre in Singapore?

There is no single best centre. The Chemistry Practice is led by a Cambridge A-Level examiner, Chemistry Guru is H2 only with one teacher, SmartLab has the smallest published class, and AO Studies has the lowest published secondary fee.

Which centres teach Combined Science Chemistry?

Mr Khemistry runs separate Pure and Combined classes, Uptas lists Combined Science slots on its 2027 timetable, and AO Studies teaches both. SG Physics, Chemistry & Math's chemistry page is for Pure Chemistry.

Which chemistry centres have the smallest classes?

SmartLab caps customised classes at 6. SG Physics, Chemistry & Math usually has 8 to 12 on weekends, Chemistry Guru about 10 to 12 at Bishan, AO Studies a maximum of 14, and Seb Academy up to 15. Uptas states an average of 15.

Do chemistry centres offer trial lessons?

Most do. AO Studies and The Chemistry Practice offer a trial at no charge, SG Physics, Chemistry & Math takes 50% off, Chemistry Guru charges S$50 at Bishan, and Mr Khemistry charges S$90 to S$120 by level.

When should my child start chemistry tuition?

Sec 3 is when Pure or Combined Chemistry begins, and mole calculations and bonding in that year carry into everything after. For H2, Chemistry Guru starts its 2027 JC1 classes on 7 and 9 January 2027, before JC lessons go far.

What changed in O-Level Chemistry for 2027?

The exam is now SEC G3 Chemistry, syllabus K324, replacing 6092. It keeps three papers: multiple choice (30%), structured and free response (50%) and a practical (20%).

What does the H2 Chemistry A-Level exam include?

Four papers under syllabus 9476: multiple choice (15%), two structured papers (30% and 35%) and a 2 hour 30 minute practical (20%). A Data Booklet with the Periodic Table is provided.

Is one-to-one tuition better than a centre for chemistry?

One-to-one follows a single student's gaps and timetable, which helps a student who is behind or anxious. At the top end it costs more per hour, at S$35 to S$95 for Sec 3 and 4 and S$45 to S$130 for JC on our rate card, but centres usually offer more hands-on practical work.

Are these centres paid to be listed?

No. We chose them by the criteria above and took every fact from each centre's own website on 7 November 2026.
