Best Sec 1 and Sec 2 Tuition Centres in Singapore (2027): 10 Compared

Written and reviewed by Theon Teo, Founder · editorial policy

Ten Sec 1 and Sec 2 tuition centres in Singapore for Maths, Science, English and Chinese, compared on published fees, our cost per hour estimate, class size, Full SBB subject levels, branches and trial terms. Every fact was read from each centre's own website on 7 November 2026.

The best Sec 1 tuition centre depends on the subject and its G level. For classes split by G1, G2 and G3 in groups of 3 to 6, look at Ancourage Academy (Bishan, Woodlands). For G3 or IP Maths in a class of at most 7, look at Math Academy (Bukit Gombak). For a struggling child in Science, Miracle Learning Centre caps Sec 1 to 2 Science at 5 and has the lowest published fee, S$280 for four 2-hour lessons. For Chinese and Higher Chinese, EduGrove is a Chinese specialist with seven branches, and Mind Stretcher teaches both with 29 centres. For all four subjects close to home, Mind Stretcher and Aspire Hub have the widest networks. In the east, Indigo (Parkway Parade, Tampines) and EduGrove (Pasir Ris, Tampines, Parkway Parade) are closest. For a premium programme, The Learning Lab has 10 branches.

Sec 1 and Sec 2 have no national exam, so lower secondary tuition is about two things: settling at the right G level for each subject, and arriving at the end of Sec 2 with results that open the Sec 3 subjects your child wants. This guide lists each centre's fees exactly as published, then works out a comparable cost per hour, because centres quote per lesson, per month, per 4 lessons or per 12-lesson package. If a fact is not on the centre's own site, we say "not published" rather than guess.

How we chose these centres

We searched Google for "sec 1 tuition centre", "sec 2 tuition centre", "lower secondary tuition singapore", "sec 1 math tuition" and "sec 1 science tuition". We noted the centres that rank and the ones that the top lists name, including MindFlex's "top 10" pages for Sec 1, Sec 2, Sec 1 Maths and Sec 2 Science. MindFlex's site would not load for us on 7 November 2026, so we used the centre names shown in search results. We then kept centres that pass all four tests below.

  1. Teaches Sec 1 and Sec 2 as a named programmeA lower secondary class in Maths, Science, English or Chinese, not only an upper secondary or PSLE class with younger students added.
  2. Publishes its programmeThe website shows at least the fee, the class format, the G level or the teachers for Sec 1 and Sec 2.
  3. Runs active branchesA current address, and for most a 2027 fee table, 2027 offers or a 2027 timetable.
  4. Spread of subject, area and priceTogether the 10 cover all four subjects, every region, small specialists and large networks, and fees from the lowest to the highest we found.

All facts were checked on 7 November 2026. Fees often change each January, so confirm the current figure before you pay. No centre paid to appear here. The detail section is in alphabetical order, not a ranking. Our other lists cover Sec 3 and Sec 4 centres, and the maths, science, English and Chinese specialists at every level. Seven of the ten centres below appear on none of those pages.

The 10 Sec 1 and Sec 2 tuition centres compared

The per-hour figure is our own estimate: the published fee divided by the published lesson hours. It excludes registration fees and deposits, and GST unless the centre includes it. Where a centre does not publish its fee or lesson length, we could not work it out.

The 10 centres in detail

Ancourage Academy

What is distinctive. The only centre here that lists every Sec 1 and Sec 2 subject by level: English, Maths, Science and Chinese at G3, G2 and G1, plus Higher Chinese at G3. Geography, History and Literature are offered on request. Classes are capped at 6, lessons are 2 hours a week, and worksheets and notes are included. Its method combines spaced retrieval practice, Socratic questioning and scaffolding. It is an MOE-registered centre that opened in 2024.

Suits: a student whose subjects sit at different G levels, such as G3 Maths with G2 Science, or a G1 or G2 student who wants a class pitched at that level. May not suit: a family that wants to compare fees online first, since fees are given only on request.

Fees as published: Not published. The pricing page says fees depend on level, subject and class type, with no registration, material or administrative fees. A deposit applies to 24-lesson packages. The 60-minute trial lesson is at no charge for a limited time, and is usually S$18.

Branches: Bishan, 152 Bishan Street 11 #01-215, about 10 minutes' walk from Bishan MRT. Woodlands, Vista Point, 548 Woodlands Drive 44 #02-16, about 5 minutes from Woodlands South MRT. Online classes run on Microsoft Teams.

Website: ancourage.academy

Ask at the trial: What is the monthly fee for our subjects and levels? Is this class only for G2 students, or mixed? Who teaches it for the whole year?

Aspire Hub

What is distinctive. Lower secondary English, Maths, Science and Chinese across 16 listed branches, most inside or beside an MRT mall. Its Lower Sec Maths page runs two tracks: G3, which works on algebra and exam technique from Sec 1, and G2, which builds algebra foundations and runs catch-up programmes for students who have fallen behind. Two class formats are published for 2027, Academic Coaching in groups of 4 to 8 and a Tutorial Series of up to 12.

Suits: a family that wants several subjects at a branch near home, in any region. May not suit: a family that wants a fixed monthly fee, since fees are sold as 12-lesson packages.

Fees as published (2027, Sec 1 to 2): Academic Coaching, 12 two-hour lessons for one subject, S$1,368, or S$4,104 for three subjects. Tutorial Series, 12 lessons of 1.5 hours, S$1,032 for one subject, or S$3,096 for three. Registration is S$80, and course fees exclude it. GST is not stated. A complimentary trial class is offered.

Ask at the trial: Is this slot Academic Coaching or Tutorial Series, and how many are in it? Does this class teach G3 or G2? Is GST added to the package price?

EduGrove

What is distinctive. A Mandarin specialist whose secondary programme covers Chinese and Higher Chinese for students aged 13 to 16, in 2-hour lessons with at most 12 students. Lessons use drama, word games and role-play alongside written exam practice, and teachers act as form teachers who update parents after class. Teachers can speak with English-speaking parents. The curriculum was designed with a former MOE PSLE marker. The centre states that 99% of its students improve by at least one grade.

Suits: a student who finds Chinese dry or is losing confidence in speaking it, from a home that mainly speaks English. May not suit: a family that wants a published fee, or a class labelled by G level, since the site gives neither.

Fees as published: Not published. A trial class can be booked online, and its cost is not stated.

Branches: White Sands, Pasir Ris. Parkway Parade, Marine Parade. Our Tampines Hub. AMK Hub, Ang Mo Kio. The Woodleigh Mall, Bidadari. SAFRA Choa Chu Kang. Anchorvale Village, Sengkang. Nearest MRT is not stated on its site.

What changes in Sec 1 and Sec 2

The 2027 Sec 1 class is the fourth cohort under Full Subject-Based Banding (Full SBB). There are no more Express, Normal (Academic) or Normal (Technical) streams. Instead, each subject is taken at a level: G1, G2 or G3. Our guide to Full SBB and G1, G2 and G3 explains the system in full.

Subject levels at the start of Sec 1

MOE uses the PSLE Score to place a student in a Posting Group, which sets the usual starting level for most subjects.

PSLE ScorePosting GroupMost subjects start at
4 to 203G3
21 to 223 or 2G3 or G2
23 to 242G2
252 or 1G2 or G1
26 to 301G1

English, Mother Tongue, Maths and Science can start one level higher, subject by subject. A Posting Group 2 student with AL5 or better in a Standard subject at PSLE may take it at G3. A Posting Group 1 student with AL5 or better may take it at G2 or G3, and with AL6 at Standard or AL A at Foundation, at G2. MOE's own example is a PSLE Score of 23 with AL5 in Maths: Posting Group 2, most subjects at G2, Maths at G3. From the 2026 Sec 1 cohort, Higher Mother Tongue depends only on the Mother Tongue result: AL1 or AL2, or a Distinction or Merit in the Higher paper. Our Sec 1 guide covers the first year in detail, and choosing G1, G2 and G3 levels helps you decide whether to take a higher level.

This is why the level of a tuition class matters more than it did. A G3 Sec 1 Maths class covers factorising by common factors, linear graphs and fractional equations. A G2 class meets some of these only in Sec 2, and G1 Maths has no equations at all in Sec 1. A class pitched at the wrong level either loses your child or repeats what they know.

School assessments, not national exams

Mid-year exams were removed for all secondary levels by 2023. Schools instead set weighted assessments (WAs) each term and an end-of-year exam. MOE's lower secondary Science syllabus says the end-of-year exam should cover a representative sample of the syllabus across the two years. Each school sets its own topic order and dates, so ask for the assessment plan in Term 1. Our guide to WA1, WA2 and end-of-year assessments explains how they are weighted.

SubjectWhat Sec 1 and Sec 2 cover (MOE syllabuses)
MathematicsG3 Sec 1: numbers, ratio, percentage, rate and speed, algebra, linear graphs, linear equations, angles and polygons, mensuration, data. G3 Sec 2: proportion, expansion and factorisation, algebraic fractions, quadratic graphs, simultaneous equations, congruence and similarity, Pythagoras, trigonometry, statistics and probability
ScienceOne syllabus for G2 and G3 across both years: 16 topics in five themes (scientific endeavour, diversity, models, interactions, systems). Some outcomes are marked optional for G2. G1 has its own 12 topics
EnglishSix areas: listening and viewing, reading and viewing, speaking and representing, writing and representing, grammar and vocabulary, at G1, G2 or G3
ChineseTaught at G1, G2 or G3, with Higher Chinese for eligible students. The national Mother Tongue papers come in Sec 4, in September

Our pages on Sec 1 Maths tuition, lower secondary Maths and lower secondary Science list the topics in more detail.

Choosing Sec 3 subjects at the end of Sec 2

From Sec 2, a student can take Geography, History or Literature at a more demanding level, based on aptitude and interest shown in Sec 1. Schools can also move a subject up or down after Sec 1, based on results and a holistic assessment, and the school has the final say. Near the end of Sec 2, schools allocate upper secondary subjects. English, Mother Tongue, Mathematics, Science and Humanities stay compulsory, and electives such as Additional Mathematics are taken at a level suited to the student, within each school's resourcing limits. Our Sec 2 guide and our guide to Sec 1 subject combinations explain how Sec 2 results shape Pure or Combined Science and A Maths.

Centre, home tutor or online?

The lowest-cost hour is usually a centre group class, and the most tailored hour is one-to-one. Here is how the published centre fees compare with the Sec 1 and Sec 2 rates on our rate card.

SubjectsMulti-subject centres cover three or four, specialists oneOne tutor per subject, or an all-rounder for two
Best forA student settled at one level who wants practice with peersA student between levels, far behind in one subject, or with a school that teaches topics in an unusual order

A worked example for a Sec 1 student who needs Maths and Science. At Zenith, two subjects cost S$600 a month before GST, about S$654 with 9% GST, for 16 hours of class. At Mind Stretcher, two weekday subjects cost S$588.60 with GST before any bundle discount, also for 16 hours. One-to-one with a full-time tutor at S$45 to S$60 an hour, 1.5 hours a week for each subject, is 12 hours and S$540 to S$720 for four weeks. With a part-time or undergraduate tutor at S$30 to S$45, it is S$360 to S$540.

How to choose a Sec 1 tuition centre

  1. Find each subject's G levelCheck the level your child takes in English, Mother Tongue, Maths and Science. A class must teach that level, so ask the centre directly.
  2. Pick the subject furthest behindOne weak subject points to a specialist. Two or three a little behind point to a multi-subject centre with a discount.
  3. Compare cost per hourTurn every quote into a cost per hour, then add registration, deposit and GST. Our table does this for the published fees.
  4. Ask the class size for your slotAsk for the number in the class your child would join, not the centre average.
  5. Book one trialTrials range from no charge to over S$100 for a week. Ask what it costs and whether any deposit is refunded if you stop.
  6. Review after the first WACompare the next weighted assessment with the last. If nothing has moved, ask the centre for a plan or switch.

Trial-lesson checklist

  • Which G level does this class teach, and are students of other levels mixed in?
  • How many students are in this exact slot?

A one-to-one option: The Singapore Syllabus

This box is about our own service. It is not one of the centres compared above, and we did not rank ourselves.

Details are on our secondary tuition page, our Sec 1 Maths tuition page and our pricing page. If one-to-one fits, tell us each subject and its G level.

Common questions

How much does Sec 1 tuition at a centre cost in Singapore?

Among the 10 centres we checked on 7 November 2026, published Sec 1 and Sec 2 fees run from S$280 to S$719.40 for four lessons. That is about S$35 to S$90 an hour, before registration fees and deposits.

What is the best Sec 1 tuition centre in Singapore?

There is no single best centre. Ancourage Academy splits classes by G level, Math Academy suits G3 and IP Maths, Miracle Learning Centre has the smallest Science groups and lowest fee, and Mind Stretcher and Aspire Hub have the most branches.

Do Sec 1 tuition classes teach G1, G2 or G3?

Most centres pitch lower secondary classes at G3 or do not say. Ancourage Academy lists G1, G2 and G3 classes and Aspire Hub runs G3 and G2 Maths tracks, so ask any other centre which level a class teaches.

Which centres have the smallest Sec 1 classes?

Miracle Learning Centre caps Sec 1 to 2 Science at 5, Ancourage Academy caps classes at 6 and Future Academy at 6. Math Academy caps lower secondary Maths at 7, and The Learning Lab has 13 a class.

Do these centres offer trial lessons?

Ancourage Academy, Indigo and Zenith offer a trial at no charge, and Aspire Hub offers a complimentary trial class. Mind Stretcher sells a one-week trial for S$107.91, and the others do not publish a trial price.

Which centres teach Sec 1 Chinese?

EduGrove is a Chinese specialist with Higher Chinese, Mind Stretcher teaches Chinese and Higher Chinese, and Ancourage Academy and Aspire Hub include Chinese. Our Chinese tuition list covers more specialists.

Does my child need tuition in Sec 1?

Not always. Tuition helps most when a subject is at a higher G level than the rest, when a WA result drops, or before the end of Sec 2 when results shape upper secondary subjects.

Can my child move up a G level after Sec 1?

Yes. Schools can move a subject up or down after Sec 1 based on results and a holistic assessment, and Humanities can move up from Sec 2. The school makes the final decision.

Is one-to-one tuition better than a centre in Sec 1?

One-to-one follows one student's level and school topics, which helps a student between levels or far behind. It costs S$30 to S$85 an hour on our Sec 1 to 2 rate card, compared with about S$35 to S$90 at the centres above.

Are these centres paid to be listed?

No. We chose them by the criteria above and took every fact from each centre's own website on 7 November 2026.
