PSLE Tamil in brief
PSLE Tamil has three papers: Paper 1 composition (karuthurai, 40 marks, 20 percent), Paper 2 language use and comprehension (90 marks, 45 percent), and Paper 3 oral (vai mozhi, 50 marks, 25 percent) with listening comprehension (20 marks, 10 percent). Higher Tamil is taken in addition by eligible students who show strong ability in Tamil. The dominant gap-creator across PSLE Tamil is karuthurai vocabulary range.

Many Tamil-stream PSLE students grow up with English as the dominant home language and Tamil only with grandparents or in weekend community settings, which means writing in formal-register Tamil under exam conditions is a stretch. Students who plateau at AL5 typically have one of three issues: vocabulary range too narrow for descriptive writing, weak grasp of formal-register Tamil grammar (sandhi rules, verb conjugation), or vai mozhi delivery that is hesitant or pronunciation-uneven.
Our PSLE Tamil tutors run weekly sessions that combine karuthurai practice (theme-based, with detailed feedback in Tamil), vinaakkal drilling on past PSLE Tamil papers, and vai mozhi coaching with stimulus-card practice. Vocabulary expansion uses topic banks and the SEAB-recommended word list. Tutors range from experienced full-time tutors to graduates with Tamil-language majors, and each profile on your shortlist states the tutor's background. We can also shortlist bilingual Tamil tutors who can support students from English-dominant home environments. For Higher Tamil students, we shortlist tutors whose profiles show Higher Tamil teaching experience.
For the karuthurai paper, lessons focus on learning the formal connector vocabulary that PSLE Tamil markers reward (aanaal, aakaiyaal, atharkku patilaaha, melum and similar) and on building a stable ten-paragraph plot template the student can adapt to any prompt. Our tutors set a weekly karuthurai with written feedback in Tamil, which is necessary because feedback in English forces the student to translate corrections back into Tamil and the lesson does not stick.
For students preparing for both Standard and Higher Tamil, we run two parallel weekly slots so that the Higher Tamil literature passages and the Standard composition practice do not compete for the same hour. Past PSLE Tamil papers and school CA papers inform the weekly question style we drill.

Common PSLE Tamil Struggles We Fix
PSLE Tamil losses cluster in karuthurai and vai mozhi. The patterns we see most often:
Karuthurai stays at the band 3 mark range because vocabulary is repetitive and the writing is too colloquial.
Vinaakkal Open-Ended answers are partially correct but lifted from the passage rather than paraphrased.
