The best Tamil tuition centre depends on your child's level and where they lose marks. For the most branches and a published 2027 fee, Tamilcube has five centres and charges S$624 for a 13-lesson P5 or P6 term, about S$32 an hour by our arithmetic. For the smallest class, Tamil Malar Tuition Centre at Alexandra Central caps standard groups at 6 and special groups at 3. For a child who is struggling, Sigaram places children in classes by their current score, with a separate class for those at 60 marks and below. For Higher Tamil up to A-Level, Jai Learning Hub lists programmes from nursery to A-Level at four branches. For a clear per-hour price online, Master Learners Academy publishes group rates from S$30 an hour. For an O-Level or SEC class only, SmartLab runs a Saturday Sec 3 and Sec 4 Tamil class. In the north, Jai Learning Hub and My Tamil Academy are both in Yishun and Tamilcube is in Sembawang.
Best Tamil Tuition Centres in Singapore (2027): 9 Compared
Written and reviewed by Theon Teo, Founder · editorial policy
We compared 9 Tamil tuition centres and online programmes for primary and secondary, using only what each one publishes, read on 8 November 2026. Fees, class sizes, branches by region, trial terms, and the marks and weightings of the PSLE Tamil and SEC Tamil papers from SEAB.
We started from the centres that rank on Google Singapore for "Tamil tuition Singapore", "PSLE Tamil tuition", "O level Tamil tuition" and "Tamil language class Singapore", and the names that appear on the top comparison pages for those searches. Tamil centres are fewer than Chinese or English ones, so we also looked at multi-subject centres with a Tamil class and online programmes. From those we kept the ones that met four tests.
- Teaches school Tamil. Each one teaches the MOE Tamil Language syllabus at primary, secondary or both, not only spoken Tamil for adults.
- Publishes its programme. Levels and lesson content are on its own site, so you can check them.
- Active now. Each site shows 2026 or 2027 dates, fees or timetables, or a 2026 copyright with current pages.
- A spread of needs. We wanted specialists and multi-subject centres, branches and online, every region and a range of prices.
Four names from other lists are not here because their websites did not load when we checked, and one is left out because its site shows no update since 2021. Where a centre does not publish a fact, the table says "not published". We did not include Google ratings, because we could not read a dated numeric rating with a reviewer count from a source we opened for each centre. The order below is alphabetical, not a ranking.
The 9 centres compared
Our per-hour figure is an estimate. We divide the published fee by the hours it covers. Where a centre publishes a fee without saying whether it is per month, term or lesson, we do not estimate.

What PSLE and SEC Tamil actually test
SEAB's PSLE Tamil Language syllabus (0007) has four parts and 200 marks. This is the format examined in 2026, unchanged since 2017. SEAB had not posted a 2027 PSLE formats page when we checked.
| PSLE paper | What it is | Time | Marks | Weighting |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 Composition | One of two, on a given topic or a picture series, at least 100 words | 50 min | 40 | 20% |
| 2 Language use and comprehension | 40 questions: 25 multiple choice for 50 marks, then 15 for 40 marks, 11 of them comprehension questions worth 32 | 1 h 40 min | 90 | 45% |
| 3 Oral | Reading a passage aloud (20 marks), then a conversation about a video clip of about 50 to 55 seconds (30 marks) | About 10 min | 50 | 25% |
| 3 Listening | 10 questions | About 30 min | 20 | 10% |
From 2027, Sec 4 students sit the SEC instead of the O-Level, and SEAB's codes change. The G3 Tamil syllabus is K322 (it was 1157), Higher Tamil is K357 (was 1147), G2 Tamil is K222 (was 1198) and G1 Tamil is K122 (was 1204).
| SEC G3 Tamil (K322) paper | What it is | Time | Marks | Weighting |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 Writing | Part A: a functional writing task of at least 110 words (20 marks). Part B: a composition of at least 200 words (40 marks) | 2 h | 60 | 30% |
| 2 Language use and comprehension | Three sections, 30 questions: 20 marks, 20 marks, then 30 marks on a longer passage | 1 h 30 min | 70 | 35% |
| 3 Oral | Reading aloud (10 marks), then a conversation about a 55 to 60 second video clip (40 marks) | 10 to 15 min | 50 | 25% |
| 3 Listening | 10 questions | About 30 min | 20 | 10% |
Higher Tamil at SEC (K357) has no listening paper. Writing is 80 marks (40%), with a functional piece of at least 130 words and a composition of at least 300 words. Language use and comprehension is 80 marks (40%) over 1 hour 45 minutes. The oral is 40 marks (20%): a talk on a video clip and a discussion, 20 marks each. At PSLE, Higher Tamil (0017) is a separate written exam graded Distinction, Merit or Pass, outside the PSLE Score. Foundation Tamil is 0027. Our Higher Mother Tongue guide covers who takes it and what it adds.

MOE grades PSLE subjects by percentage. AL1 is 90% and above, AL2 is 85 to 89%, AL3 is 80 to 84% and AL4 is 75 to 79%. On 200 marks that means 180 for AL1 and 170 for AL2. Each oral mark is worth half a percentage point, so 10 more marks in the oral alone moves a child 5 points, a whole AL band. Our PSLE AL scores guide shows how the bands add up to the PSLE Score.
Three things follow for choosing a class. At PSLE, oral and listening carry 70 of the 200 marks, so ask how often a centre runs a real oral with a video clip, not only reading aloud. At SEC, the video conversation alone is 40 marks, so a secondary class should practise speaking at length about an unseen clip. And from 2027 there is only one written Mother Tongue sitting at SEC, in September, with the oral and listening before it, so there is no mid-year attempt to fall back on. Our SEC Mother Tongue 2027 guide and SEC grading guide explain the change. If your child may qualify to drop Tamil, read our Mother Tongue exemption guide first.

Secondary students in schools that do not teach Tamil take their lessons at one of 11 school-based Tamil centres or at MOE's Umar Pulavar Tamil Language Centre. Umar Pulavar also runs an elective programme for Higher Tamil students over 8 Saturdays a year, and students join it through their own school's Mother Tongue department, not by applying directly. The centre says it moves to 1 Victoria Lane in 2027.
Centre, home tutor or online?
| Point | Tamil centre class | One-to-one tutor, at home or online |
|---|---|---|
| Cost per hour | About S$29 to S$60 at primary and secondary where fee and length are published, shared with the class | S$25 to S$80 at primary and S$30 to S$95 at secondary, from our rate card, by tutor type |
| Who sets the pace | The class programme and its timetable | The tutor, around your child's weakest paper |
| Oral practice | Varies, so ask how often a video conversation is run | Can be part of every lesson, with the child speaking most of the hour |
| Composition feedback | Varies, so ask to see marked scripts | Each script can be gone through line by line |
| Best for | A child who is keeping up and gains from hearing others speak Tamil | A child who is shy to speak in a group, has one weak paper, or lives far from a Tamil centre |
Tamil centres are fewer than Chinese ones, so travel is often the deciding factor. A centre hour is cheaper because it is shared. A one-to-one hour costs more at secondary but spends the whole hour on one child's errors, which matters most for the oral. Our pricing page has the full TSS rate card.
By area
The grouping into regions is ours, from each centre's listed addresses.
| Region | Centres with a branch there |

How to choose
- Find the paper that costs marksLook at your child's last marked Tamil paper. Oral, composition, comprehension and listening each need a different kind of class.
- Check the stream and levelMake sure the class matches Standard, Higher or Foundation Tamil at primary, or G1, G2, G3 or Higher Tamil at secondary.
- Check travel timeWith few Tamil centres, a 15-minute trip each way can matter more than a small fee difference. Online classes remove it.
- Check the real costAsk what the fee covers, how many lessons, and add registration, deposit and materials.
- Book a trial with a marked paperBring a recent script and ask the teacher to work on your child's real errors.
At the trial, check these five things:
| Check | A good answer looks like |
|---|---|
| Oral | Reading aloud with feedback, plus a conversation on a video clip, through the year |
| Composition | A marked script with comments, and a rewrite the following week |
| Comprehension | Practice on open-ended questions, not only multiple choice |
| Who talks | Your child speaks Tamil for a real share of the lesson |
| Progress record | A dated record of marks by paper, shared with you |
A centre teaching 10 or more students at a time should appear in MOE's private schools search, though registration is not a mark of quality.
If one-to-one sounds right, our Tamil tuition page explains how we match tutors by level, and the PSLE Tamil subject page sets out what we cover.
Common questions
Which is the best Tamil tuition centre in Singapore?
It depends on the need. From our comparison, Tamilcube has the most branches and a published 2027 fee, Tamil Malar has the smallest published groups, Sigaram groups children by score, and Jai Learning Hub covers Higher Tamil up to A-Level.
How much does Tamil tuition cost at a centre in 2027?
Where both fee and lesson length are published, primary and secondary group Tamil classes cost about S$29 to S$60 an hour, from fees we read on 8 November 2026. Several centres publish an amount without saying what period it covers, so ask for it in writing with any registration fee and deposit.
What is the smallest Tamil tuition class?
Of the centres that publish a size, Tamil Malar caps its special group at 3 and its standard group at 6. Sigaram runs groups of 4 to 8, Tamilcube up to 8 and My Tamil Academy 8 to 1. Powerkid teaches one to one online.
How is PSLE Tamil marked?
Out of 200 marks: composition 40 (20%), language use and comprehension 90 (45%), oral 50 (25%) and listening 20 (10%). The result is an AL from 1 to 8, with AL1 at 90% and above.
How is SEC Tamil marked from 2027?
G3 Tamil (K322) is out of 200: writing 60 marks (30%), language use and comprehension 70 (35%), oral 50 (25%) and listening 20 (10%). The written papers are sat once, in September.
How long must a PSLE Tamil composition be?
At least 100 words, on a given topic or a picture series, in 50 minutes. At SEC G3 the composition is at least 200 words, and at SEC Higher Tamil at least 300.
Which centres teach Higher Tamil?
Jai Learning Hub, Tamil Malar, Tamilcube and Sigaram list Higher Tamil classes. Jai and Tamil Malar list it at both primary and secondary, and Tamilcube at secondary.
Do these centres offer trial lessons?
Tamilcube offers a trial at no charge, except in December, and Powerkid a 1-hour demo class at no charge. Sigaram and Singa take trial bookings without publishing terms, and My Tamil Academy offers trials for nursery and enrichment only.
Is a centre or a home tutor better for Tamil?
Neither in general. A class suits a child who is keeping up and gains from hearing others speak, while one-to-one suits a child who is shy to speak, has one weak paper, or lives far from a Tamil centre.
How much is one-to-one Tamil tuition through TSS?
From our rate card, S$25 to S$70 an hour at P1 to P4, S$30 to S$80 at P5 and P6, S$30 to S$85 at Sec 1 and 2 and S$35 to S$95 at Sec 3 and 4, by tutor type. The same rates apply at home or online.
