Best H2 Chemistry Tuition in Singapore (2027): 10 JC Centres Compared

Written and reviewed by Theon Teo, Founder · editorial policy

Ten H2 Chemistry tuition centres for JC students side by side: published fees turned into a cost per hour, class sizes, branches with the nearest MRT, trial terms and what to ask, plus what the 9476 exam and the Paper 4 practical test.

The best H2 Chemistry tuition centre depends on what your child needs. For a teacher who taught H2 in MOE junior colleges and is a Cambridge A-Level Chemistry examiner, look at The Chemistry Practice (Bugis and Kovan). For a former JC teacher who wrote four H2 assessment books, look at Mr Khemistry (Beauty World and Tampines). For the smallest published class, Ancourage Academy groups 3 to 6 students in Bishan and Woodlands, and Eclat Institute caps classes at 8 in Jurong East with a named Paper 4 practical specialist. In the east and north, The Science Academy runs JC1 classes at Tampines Hub and Woodlands Square. The lowest published fee is Chemistry Guru's live online class, S$280 for a 4-week month.

This guide lists each centre's fees exactly as published, then works out a comparable cost per hour, because centres quote per lesson, per month or per term. Every fact was read on the centre's own website on 8 November 2026. If a fact is not on the centre's site, we say "not published" rather than guess. This list is for JC students only. For O-Level and IP Chemistry centres, see our chemistry tuition centres guide.

How we chose these centres

We searched Google for "h2 chemistry tuition singapore", "a level chemistry tuition", "jc chemistry tuition centre" and "best h2 chem tuition", and noted the centres that rank and the ones other top lists name. We then kept centres that meet the tests below.

  1. Teaches JC H2 Chemistry as a named classThe centre runs JC1 or JC2 H2 Chemistry as its own programme. We favoured chemistry or JC specialists over general centres.
  2. Publishes its programmeIts website shows the fee, the timetable, the teacher or the class format for H2 Chemistry.
  3. Runs active branchesIt lists a current address, a 2026 or 2027 timetable, or both.
  4. Spread of area, price and styleTogether the 10 cover every region, very small and large classes, on-site and online, and a range of fees.

One exception to the second test: Cleverland Tutorial Centre lists its H2 Chemistry class and its branches but not its fee, teacher or class format. We kept it for east and north-east coverage, and its entry marks what is not published.

All facts were checked on 8 November 2026. Fees often change in January, so confirm the current figure before you pay. No centre paid to appear here. The detail section is in alphabetical order, not a ranking.

The 10 H2 Chemistry tuition centres compared

The per-hour figure is our own estimate. We divided the published fee by the published lesson hours. Where a centre does not publish its fee or lesson length, we could not work it out.

The 10 centres in detail

Ancourage Academy

What is distinctive. H2 Chemistry classes hold 3 to 6 students, the smallest published group on this list. Worksheets, notes and materials are included, with no registration or material fees. Replacement lessons can be arranged with 24 hours' notice, and live online classes run on Microsoft Teams with the same groups. The centre does not name its chemistry tutors on the JC Chemistry page.

Suits: a student who wants a very small group, in central or north Singapore. May not suit: a family that wants to compare fees before calling, since the page says to contact the centre for pricing.

Fees as published: Not published. A trial class is offered at no charge (the page says it is usually S$18), with no obligation to enrol. Lesson length is not published.

Branches: 152 Bishan Street 11, #01-215 (near Bishan MRT). Vista Point, 548 Woodlands Drive 44, #02-16 (near Woodlands South MRT).

Website: ancourage.academy

Ask at the trial: Who teaches H2 Chemistry, and what is their background? What is the monthly fee and how long is each lesson? Does the group stay the same all year?

Bright Culture

What is distinctive. Bright Culture teaches chemistry only and states that it has an NEA-approved lab for practicals, which matters for Paper 4. H2 sessions run for 2 hours, and the site says most tutors are full-time A-Level chemistry tutors, many of them former MOE teachers. Lessons are recorded for rewatching. The centre states that 93.5% of its H2 students improved by at least 4 grades.

Suits: a student who wants practical lab work alongside theory, near Novena. May not suit: a family that wants a published fee or class size, since neither is on the site.

Fees as published: Not published. The site asks families to leave their contact details for current fees. A trial class is offered at no charge.

Branch: 183B Thomson Road, Goldhill Centre, about 3 minutes' walk from Novena MRT. The site also names Jurong, Woodlands and Tampines as areas it serves, without addresses. Online lessons run on Zoom.

Website: bright-culture.com

Ask at the trial: How many students are in the class, and what is the monthly fee? How often do JC students use the lab? Who would teach my child?

Chemistry Guru

What is distinctive. Chemistry Guru teaches JC H2 Chemistry only, and the founder, Maverick Puah, teaches every class himself. He holds a BSc with Second Class Upper Honours in Chemistry from NUS and a PGDE from NIE, was a PSC teaching scholar, and lectured at a junior college for three years before founding the centre in 2010. Fees are monthly rather than termly, and past lessons are recorded for make-up.

Suits: a student who wants the lowest published online fee, or one teacher all year in central Singapore. May not suit: a student who wants a small group, since the Bishan class holds about 10 to 12, or who wants one-to-one help, which the centre does not offer.

Fees as published: S$360 for a 4-week month and S$450 for a 5-week month at Bishan, with weekly 2-hour lessons. Online classes on Zoom cost S$280 and S$350, with 1 hour 45 minute lessons. No deposit or registration fee is mentioned. A trial costs S$50 at Bishan and S$35 online. The 2027 JC1 classes start on 7 January (online) and 9 January (Bishan).

Branch: 112 Bishan Street 12, #01-20, within walking distance of Bishan MRT.

Website: chemistryguru.com.sg

Ask at the trial: Which slot has places for my child? How are questions answered between lessons? What do the November and December holiday revision classes cost?

Cleverland Tutorial Centre

What is distinctive. Cleverland is an MOE-registered neighbourhood centre that lists H2 Chemistry among its JC Year 1 and 2 courses at its Tampines main branch and Hougang branch. Its site publishes branch addresses and opening hours but not the H2 Chemistry fee, tutor or class size.

Suits: a family in Tampines or Hougang that wants a centre close to home and will call for details. May not suit: a family that wants to compare fees, teachers or class sizes online first.

Fees as published: Not published. Trial terms are not published.

Branches: Blk 201E Tampines Street 23, #04-104 (Tampines East MRT is the nearest). Blk 682 Hougang Avenue 4, #02-338 (nearest MRT not listed). Open Tuesday to Sunday, closed Mondays.

Website: cleverland.com.sg

Ask at the trial: Who teaches JC1 and JC2 H2 Chemistry, and what is their background? What is the fee per month and the lesson length? How large is the class?

Eclat Institute

What is distinctive. Eclat names a Senior Chemistry Specialist, Mr Azmi, who leads H2 theory and Paper 4 practical skills. The site states he taught chemistry in MOE schools for 18 years and holds an NUS degree, a Master of Science and an NIE teaching diploma. Classes are capped at 8, and a hybrid format with recorded walkthroughs is offered for students with busy CCA weeks.

Suits: a west-side student who wants a small class and direct help with the practical paper. May not suit: a student who wants 2-hour lessons, since lessons are 1.5 hours.

Fees as published: S$360 a month for the October to February intake, S$380 for March to June, and S$400 for July to September, each for four 1.5-hour lessons. Continuing students pay S$360 a month the next year. The page says Paper 4 practical training is part of weekly lessons but also that Paper 4 intensives and holiday classes are quoted separately, so ask which applies. Registration, deposit and trial fees are not published.

Branch: 2 Venture Drive, #16-07 Vision Exchange (Jurong East MRT). The one-north office is for talks only.

Website: eclatinstitute.sg

Ask at the trial: Are Paper 4 sessions included in the monthly fee? Is there a trial lesson, and what does it cost? Which slot does Mr Azmi teach?

Julian Chemistry

What is distinctive. The principal tutor, Miss Raene Lim, has 18 years of teaching experience. Fees are locked in at the rate a student registers at and do not rise while the student stays. Students receive pre-lesson videos, lecture notes, a question compendium and a recording of every lesson, and consultations are unlimited. The centre states that 90% of her students scored A or B in H2 Chemistry. It also runs JC2 H3 Chemistry.

Suits: a student who wants recordings of every lesson and a fixed fee through JC2. May not suit: a student who wants a small group, since classes are under 20, or a family that prefers monthly payment, since fees are paid by term.

Fees as published: S$120 per 2-hour lesson for JC1 (from June 2026) and S$130 for JC2 (from July 2026), collected for the whole term before its first lesson. There is no deposit and no administrative or material fee. Early withdrawal needs a month's notice, and fees paid are not refunded. Trial terms are not published.

Branch: Bishan. The street address is not published on the programme page. Lessons are listed as on site and online. The 2027 timetable is not yet published.

Website: julianchemistry.com

Ask at the trial: Where exactly is the Bishan class? Is there a trial lesson? When will the 2027 timetable be released?

Mr Khemistry

What is distinctive. Every JC class is taught by Eric Kua, a former MOE junior college teacher with about 20 years of chemistry teaching. He holds a BSc in Chemistry from NUS and a PGDE from NIE and has written four A-Level H2 Chemistry assessment books. Every class can be joined on Zoom, and recordings are shared after missed lessons. One JC1 seat and one JC2 seat a year are offered at half fees to families with an MOE or school financial assistance letter. The centre states that over 90% of students improve by at least two grades.

Suits: a student in the west or east who wants one experienced teacher, with the option to switch between on-site and online. May not suit: a family that wants a low-cost trial, since the trial costs a full lesson fee.

Fees as published: S$120 per 2-hour lesson, collected by term before the first lesson. A S$150 registration and materials fee applies. A trial lesson costs S$120. A recordings-only package starts at S$150 a month. Missed lessons are not refunded.

Branches: Bukit Timah Shopping Centre, 170 Upper Bukit Timah Road #02-63 (about a minute's walk from Beauty World MRT). 201A Tampines Street 21 (about 7 minutes' walk from Tampines East MRT). The 2027 timetable has JC1 on Friday evening in Tampines and on Saturday and Sunday mornings at Bukit Timah.

Website: mrkhemistry.com

Ask at the trial: How many students are in the class? Is the trial fee deducted if we enrol? How are mid-term joiners charged?

The Chemistry Practice

What is distinctive. The founder, Mr Kelvin, holds First Class Honours in Chemistry from NUS and a PGDE from NIE, taught H2 Chemistry in MOE junior colleges and is a Cambridge examiner for A-Level Chemistry. He teaches with Dr Alson. Every timeslot can be attended on site or on Zoom. There is no registration or material fee.

Suits: a student who wants an examiner's view of how answers are marked, in central or north-east Singapore. May not suit: a family that prefers monthly payment, since fees are collected by term.

Fees as published: S$100 per 2-hour lesson on site and S$90 online for 2026, collected by term (12 to 14 lessons a term, pro-rated for mid-term joiners). 2027 fees are not yet published. A trial lesson is offered at no charge.

Branches: North Bridge Centre, 420 North Bridge Road #05-09 (Bugis MRT is the closest). Spazio@Kovan, 767 Upper Serangoon Road #02-12 (near Kovan MRT). The 2026 timetable has JC1 and JC2 slots at both branches, on weekday evenings and weekends.

Website: thechemistrypractice.sg

Ask at the trial: Who teaches this slot, Mr Kelvin or Dr Alson? How large is the class? What are the 2027 fees?

The Science Academy

What is distinctive. The Science Academy runs JC H2 Chemistry at three branches, with JC1 classes at Tampines, Woodlands and Toa Payoh and a JC2 class at Toa Payoh. The tutors named on the timetable are Mr Nicholas Yu, who has taught for over 10 years and holds a BSc in Biological Sciences, and Mr Jared Tham. Students get online access to lecture videos, tutorials and mock exams, and recordings can be bought to catch up on missed lessons.

Suits: a JC1 student in the east or north who wants a weekday evening class near an MRT station. May not suit: a JC2 student in the east or north, since the only published JC2 slot is at Toa Payoh.

Fees as published: S$400 a month for one subject, S$380 for a second and S$360 for a third. Timetable slots are 2 hours. The number of lessons a month, class size, registration and deposit are not published. A trial lesson costs S$100, excluding an admin fee.

Branches: Our Tampines Hub, 1 Tampines Walk #B1-19 (nearest MRT not listed). 11 Woodlands Square #B1-29 (at Woodlands MRT). 192 Lorong 4 Toa Payoh #01-674 (nearest MRT not listed).

Website: thescienceacademy.sg

Ask at the trial: How many lessons does the monthly fee cover? How large is the class? What is the admin fee?

Zenith Education Studio

What is distinctive. Zenith has the widest network here, 14 branches, and names eight JC Chemistry tutors, including Dr Liu Ruoyang (NUS PhD in Chemistry) and several NUS and NTU chemistry graduates. Missed lessons can be made up in another class that week or watched as a recording. The centre states that 90.3% of its 2024 JC batch scored A or B.

Branches: Bishan, Bukit Panjang, Bukit Timah, Buona Vista, Jurong East, Jurong Point, King Albert Park, Kovan, Marymount/Upper Thomson, Paya Lebar, Potong Pasir, Serangoon, Tampines and Woodlands. The JC Chemistry page does not say which branches run H2 Chemistry slots.

Website: zenitheducationstudio.com

Ask at the trial: Which branch runs H2 Chemistry on the day we need? How many students are in this slot? Who answers questions after class?

What does the H2 Chemistry exam actually test?

H2 Chemistry is syllabus 9476, the code on SEAB's lists for both 2026 and 2027. Every candidate sits all four papers. A good centre teaches to this structure, including the practical, not only the school's topic order.

PaperFormatTimeMarksWeighting
Paper 130 multiple-choice questions, 5 to 8 of the multiple-completion type1 hour3015%
Paper 2Structured questions, including 20 to 25 marks of data-based questions2 hours7530%
Paper 3Section A: 55 marks, 3 to 4 compulsory questions. Section B: answer 1 of 2 questions of 20 marks2 hours7535%
Paper 4Practical2 hours 30 minutes5020%

A Data Booklet with the Periodic Table is provided for the theory papers, and calculators must be on SEAB's approved list. SEAB weights the skills as 36% knowledge with understanding, 44% handling, applying and evaluating information, and 20% experimental skills. That 44% is why practice with unfamiliar data matters more than memorising notes.

Paper 4, the practical

Paper 4 is a 2.5-hour lab exam, and students may not bring notes. Planning an experiment carries 4% of the grade. The other 16% covers carrying out the work and taking measurements, presenting data, and analysing and evaluating results. The syllabus expects students to have practised:

  • titrations, including acid-base, redox and iodimetric titrations, and making standard solutions
  • gravimetric analysis, thermochemistry and reaction kinetics experiments
  • qualitative analysis of inorganic ions and of simple organic functional groups, using the Qualitative Analysis Notes printed in the paper
  • simple organic synthesis using a water bath, reflux and distillation.

School lab time is limited, so ask any centre how it trains planning questions and data analysis, which can be practised without a lab.

The hardest topics

The syllabus groups content into three core ideas (Matter, Structure and Properties, and Transformation) and four extension topics. The parts below carry the most interlinked ideas, so they tend to need the most practice.

  • Extension topic 11Organic reactions and mechanismsPredicting products and drawing mechanisms across hydrocarbons, halogen derivatives, hydroxy, carbonyl and nitrogen compounds, acids and polymers.
  • Core idea 3, topic 7Chemical energeticsEnthalpy cycles, entropy and Gibbs free energy, and deciding whether a reaction is feasible.
  • Topics 9 and 10Equilibria and aqueous solutionsEquilibrium constants, pH of weak acids, buffers and solubility equilibria.
  • Extension topic 12ElectrochemistryElectrode potentials, cells and electrolysis calculations.
  • Extension topic 13Transition elementsComplex ions, colour, ligand exchange and catalysis, built on bonding and the Periodic Table.
  • Paper 2Data-based questions20 to 25 marks of unfamiliar data that must be read, applied and evaluated under time pressure.

Our guide on how to score an A in H2 Chemistry covers paper strategy, and our JC2 H2 Chemistry topic page sets out the syllabus. Grades run from A to E for a pass, then S and U, and an H2 A is worth 20 of the 70 rank points, as our A-Level grading system guide explains.

Centre, home tutor or online?

The cheapest hour is usually a live online group class. The most tailored hour is one-to-one. Here is how the published centre fees above compare with the JC rates on our rate card.

PointCentre group classOne-to-one home tutor
Cost per hourAbout S$45 to S$67 on site, from S$40 online (centre fees above)S$45 to S$60 part-time, S$65 to S$90 full-time, S$90 to S$130 ex-MOE or MOE (our JC rate card)

PracticalLab work only where the centre has a labPlanning and data-analysis practice, no lab
Best forA student who keeps up and wants structure and classmatesA student who is behind, anxious, or aiming to turn a B into an A

A worked example: a JC1 student in a 2-hour weekly class at S$120 a lesson pays S$120 a week. One 1.5-hour lesson a week with a full-time tutor at S$65 to S$90 an hour costs S$97.50 to S$135 a week. Many families keep the weekly centre class and add a few one-to-one sessions before promos or prelims.

How to choose an H2 Chemistry tuition centre

  1. Start from the gapLook at the last school test. Losing marks on organic mechanisms, on calculations in energetics or equilibria, or on the practical? Pick a centre whose teacher and format fit that gap.
  2. Compare cost per hourTurn every quote into a cost per hour, then add registration, materials, deposit and GST. Our table does this for the published fees.
  3. Check the class size for your slotAsk for the number in the class your child would join, not the average.
  4. Ask about Paper 4It is 20% of the grade. Ask whether planning and data-analysis questions are taught, and whether any lab work is included.
  5. Book one trialSeveral centres charge for the trial. Ask the cost and whether it is deducted if you enrol.
  6. Review after one monthCompare the next school test with the last. If nothing has moved after about 6 to 8 lessons, ask the centre for a plan or switch.

Trial-lesson checklist

  • Who teaches the class for the whole year, and who covers if they are away?
  • How many students are in this exact slot?
  • Are notes matched to the 9476 syllabus, with timed Paper 2 and Paper 3 practice?
  • How is Paper 4 planning taught?
  • How are questions handled between lessons?
  • What does a missed lesson cost, and is there a recording?
  • What notice is needed to stop, and is any deposit refunded?

Common questions

How much does H2 Chemistry tuition at a centre cost in Singapore?

Among the centres that publish fees, checked on 8 November 2026, on-site classes cost S$360 to S$420 a month or S$100 to S$130 a lesson. That works out to roughly S$45 to S$67 an hour before registration, deposit or GST, and online classes start at about S$40 an hour.

What is the best H2 Chemistry tuition centre in Singapore?

There is no single best centre. The Chemistry Practice and Mr Khemistry are run by teachers who taught H2 in MOE junior colleges, Chemistry Guru has the lowest published online fee, Ancourage Academy has the smallest published groups and Zenith has the most branches.

Which H2 Chemistry centres have the smallest classes?

Ancourage Academy publishes groups of 3 to 6 and Eclat Institute a maximum of 8. Chemistry Guru states about 10 to 12 at Bishan, Julian Chemistry under 20 and Zenith up to 60. The others do not publish a number.

Do H2 Chemistry centres offer trial lessons?

Most do. Ancourage Academy, Bright Culture, The Chemistry Practice and Zenith offer a trial at no charge. Chemistry Guru charges S$50 on site or S$35 online, The Science Academy S$100 plus an admin fee, and Mr Khemistry S$120.

What is the H2 Chemistry syllabus code for 2027?

It is 9476, the code SEAB lists for H2 Chemistry in both 2026 and 2027. H1 Chemistry is 8873 and H3 Chemistry is 9813.

How much is the H2 Chemistry practical worth?

Paper 4 is 20% of the grade, a 2.5-hour practical marked out of 50. Planning carries 4%, and the remaining 16% covers lab skills, presenting data and evaluating results.

What are the hardest topics in H2 Chemistry?

Organic reactions and mechanisms, chemical energetics with Gibbs free energy, equilibria and aqueous solutions, electrochemistry and transition elements link the most ideas. The data-based questions in Paper 2, worth 20 to 25 marks, also test how well a student applies them to unfamiliar data.

When should my child start H2 Chemistry tuition?

Several centres start JC1 classes in January, such as Chemistry Guru's 2027 classes on 7 and 9 January, and Eclat Institute's lowest fee is for its October to February intake. Starting before JC1 promos gives time to fix gaps in bonding, moles and energetics, which carry into JC2.

Is one-to-one tuition better than a centre for H2 Chemistry?

One-to-one follows a single student's weak topics and school schedule, which helps a student who is behind or anxious. It costs more per hour, S$45 to S$130 on our JC rate card, compared with about S$45 to S$67 at the centres above.

Are these centres paid to be listed?

No. We chose them by the criteria above and took every fact from each centre's own website on 8 November 2026.
