All facts were checked on 8 November 2026. Fees change, often each January, so confirm the current figure before you pay. No centre paid to appear here, and the detail section is in alphabetical order, not a ranking. For the other two sciences, see our chemistry tuition centres guide and physics tuition centres guide. For centres across several JC subjects, see our JC tuition guide.
The 10 biology tuition centres compared
The per-hour figure is our own estimate. We divided the published fee by the published number of lesson hours. Where a centre does not publish its fee or lesson length, we could not work it out.

What the biology exams actually test
From 2027, the O-Level is replaced by the Singapore-Cambridge Secondary Education Certificate (SEC). Pure Biology becomes G3 Biology K325, and the Combined Science options with biology become K327 (Physics, Biology) and K328 (Chemistry, Biology). Our SEC grading guide explains how the new results are reported.
SEC G3 Biology (K325), Pure Biology
| Paper | Type | Time | Marks | Weight |
|---|
| Paper 1 | 40 multiple choice questions | 1 hour | 40 | 30% |
| Paper 2 | Section A 70 marks of structured questions, ending with a free response question and a data-based question (20 marks together, the data-based question 8 to 12). Section B, answer 1 of 2 free response questions for 10 marks | 1 hour 45 min | 80 | 50% |
| Paper 3 | Practical, 2 to 3 compulsory questions | 1 hour 50 min | 40 | 20% |
In the theory papers, about 45% of marks test knowledge with understanding and about 55% test handling information and solving problems. In the practical, planning an experiment carries 15% of Paper 3's marks. The 14 topics sit in four themes: cells and the chemistry of life (cell structure, movement of substances, biological molecules), the human body (nutrition, transport, respiration, excretion, homeostasis and co-ordination, infectious diseases), living together (nutrition and transport in plants, organisms and their environment) and continuity of life (molecular genetics, reproduction, inheritance). Our SEC Biology A1 guide shows how to plan answers for each paper, and the O-Level Biology syllabus page lists the topics.
Combined Science Biology (K327 or K328). The biology part sits in Paper 4, 1 hour 15 minutes for 65 marks and 32.5% of the grade. Paper 1 is 40 multiple choice questions across both sciences (20%), and Paper 5 is a 1 hour 30 minute practical across both sciences (15%). The biology section has 12 topics and leaves out excretion and homeostasis, which is why a Combined student should be in a class that follows the combined syllabus. Our Combined Science guide explains the choice.
H2 Biology (9477, replacing 9744)
The 2027 A-Level uses a new H2 Biology syllabus, 9477, which SEAB says refines and updates the previous syllabus, 9744. If a centre still teaches from 9744 notes, ask how they have been updated.
| Paper | Type | Time | Marks | Weight |
|---|
| Paper 1 | 30 multiple choice questions, four options each | 1 hour | 30 | 15% |
| Paper 2 | Structured questions, all compulsory, including data-based or comprehension questions | 2 hours | 90 | 30% |
| Paper 3 | Section A 55 marks of long structured questions on stimulus material. Section B, answer 1 of 2 free response questions for 20 marks | 2 hours | 75 | 35% |
| Paper 4 | Practical | 2 hours 30 min | 50 | 20% |
Assessment objectives are weighted 36% knowledge with understanding, 44% handling, applying and evaluating information, and 20% experimental skills. The content is built on four core ideas (the cell and biomolecules of life, genetics and inheritance, energy and equilibrium, biological evolution) and two extension topics, infectious diseases and the impact of climate change on animals and plants, which together take up about 15% of the curriculum. In Section B of Paper 3, part of the marks go to the quality of scientific argument and written communication. Our JC 2 H2 Biology syllabus page breaks down the topics.
