IP Tuition: a guide for parents
The Integrated Programme is the six-year through-train that skips the O-Level (and from 2027, SEC) checkpoint entirely: IP students at schools like Raffles Institution, Hwa Chong Institution, ACS (Independent), Dunman High, Nanyang Girls', River Valley High, National JC and Temasek JC move straight from Year 4 into the JC years and sit only the A-Level (or, at ACS(I) and a few others, the IB Diploma) at the end. That design changes what tuition has to be.

There is no national syllabus code to teach to in Years 1 to 4, each school writes its own curriculum, sets its own exams, and habitually runs ahead of the MOE mainstream by six months to a year, especially in Math and the sciences. Generic "secondary tuition" mismatches this badly: the tutor teaches the mainstream sequence while the school is already two topics ahead, testing at a depth closer to A-Level introduction than O-Level.
Our IP tuition is school-matched by design. We ask which school and which year, then match a tutor who has taught that school's materials before, IP students bring their school's notes, tutorials and past internal papers, and lessons run off those rather than a generic textbook. Demand concentrates in three places. IP math tuition is the largest: the acceleration is steepest there, and a wobble in Year 2 or 3 compounds into the JC years where H2 Math assumes total fluency.
IP English tuition is second, driven by the essay and critical-reading standards IP schools set well above the mainstream, and by the transition into General Paper and the IB's English A. The sciences are third, where IP schools introduce JC-style treatment (proper mechanics, quantitative chemistry) as early as Year 3. Because there is no external exam until A-Level or IB, the school's internal exams ARE the stakes: they decide subject combinations, promotion and, at some schools, whether a student stays in the programme.

Why can't a regular secondary tutor teach an IP student?
Sometimes they can, but the mismatch risk is high: IP schools write their own curricula, run six to twelve months ahead of the mainstream, and test at near-JC depth from Year 3. A tutor teaching the mainstream sequence will be behind the school's pace. We look for tutors who have taught the specific school's materials.
Do IP students really need tuition if they skipped O-Levels?
