The best Malay tuition depends on the level and on where marks are lost. For a Malay specialist taught by a former MOE Malay teacher, Pusat Bahasa Nusa has six centres and live online classes from K2 to Sec 5. For the smallest group and Higher Malay classes at P5, P6 and upper secondary, EduReach caps classes at 8 in Tampines, Hougang and online. For the most branches at secondary level, Edufirst lists Malay as a second language across 28 centres, though you should confirm a Malay class runs at yours. For the lowest published price, the Pasir Ris Central CC Malay creative writing course costs about S$15 an hour. For a child who only needs the oral, Eduprime coaches PSLE Malay oral one to one or in groups of 2 to 4. For weekly one-to-one lessons at home, five tutor services below publish Malay rates you can compare with ours.
Best Malay Tuition Centres in Singapore (2027): 10 Options Compared
Written and reviewed by Theon Teo, Founder · editorial policy
Malay tuition centres are fewer than Chinese or English ones. We compared the 10 options that publish a real Malay programme, using only their own pages read on 8 November 2026: fees per hour, class sizes, branches, trials, and how PSLE and SEC Malay papers are marked by SEAB.
We searched Google Singapore for "Malay tuition Singapore", "PSLE Malay tuition", "O Level Malay tuition" and "Malay language tuition centre", and read the comparison pages that rank for them. Most results are home tuition agencies. Few centres in Singapore publish a Malay programme, so we widened the list to any centre, community course or tutor service that met four tests.
- Teaches school Malay. Each option teaches Malay Language for primary or secondary school, not only conversational Malay for adults.
- Publishes its programme. Levels, lesson times, fees or rates are on its own site, so you can check them.
- Active for 2027. Each one lists 2027 classes, 2027 fees or a current course.
- A spread of needs. Specialist and multi-subject centres, a community course, oral coaching and one-to-one services at different prices.
We left out several names that comparison sites list for Malay because their own websites do not show a Malay class. We also left out the Mendaki Tuition Scheme, which covers English, Maths and Science. Where an option does not publish a fact, the table says "not published". We did not include Google ratings, because we could not read a dated rating for every option from a source we opened. The order is alphabetical within two groups: group classes first, then one-to-one services.
The 10 options compared
Our per-hour figure is an estimate. We divide the published fee by the published hours it covers, with GST where the provider states it. Where a fee is not published, we do not estimate.

The 10 options in detail
EduReach
What is distinctive. A multi-subject centre founded in 2015 that teaches English, Maths, Science and Malay, and publishes its full 2027 timetable with a maximum of 8 students a class. Malay runs from P1 to Sec 4. Most primary classes are 1.5 hours, and the P5 and P6 classes at Tampines and Hougang are 2 hours. It runs separate Higher Malay classes for P5, P6, Sec 3, Sec 4 and a mixed secondary group, which few centres offer. Several Malay classes are taught live online on weekday evenings. The centre states that every student who started at AL6 reached at least AL3 in PSLE Malay.
Suits: a child who needs a small group, a Higher Malay pupil at P5 or P6, and families in the east and north-east. Less suited to: families who need a fee before they enquire, since fees are not published, or families in Woodlands, since the 2027 timetable shows no Malay class there.
Fees as published: not published. A trial lesson costs S$20. Registration fees and deposits are not published.
Branches and nearest MRT (our reading of the address): Tampines Street 23, Blk 201E (Tampines) and Midtown, 1187 Upper Serangoon Road (Hougang) for Malay, plus online. The Woodlands centre at Primz Bizhub runs other subjects.
Website: edureachsg.com
Ask at the trial: What will the P6 class fee be for 2027? How often is the oral practised with a video prompt? Is the online class the same programme as the Tampines one?
Edufirst
What is distinctive. A large multi-subject centre with 28 branches and a published 2027 rate card. Its secondary page lists second language classes in Chinese, Malay and Tamil for Express, N(A) and N(T) students. Fees are for 4 sessions a month, and its published time slots are 1.5 hours. Materials and exam papers are included. Its 2027 subject list names Chinese but not Malay, so check that a Malay class runs at your branch before you register.
Suits: a secondary student who wants Malay at a branch near home alongside other subjects. Less suited to: a primary child, since Malay is listed only at secondary, or a Higher Malay student, since no Higher Malay class is listed.
Fees as published (2027): first subject S$300 a month for Sec 1 and 2 and S$320 for Sec 3 to 5, with lower fees for second and later subjects. Prices are subject to GST. Registration is S$50, and you pay the first month's fees plus a deposit of one month. Trial terms are not published.
Branches: 28 centres. By our grouping, 8 are in the west, 8 in the north-east, 4 in the north, 4 in the east and 4 central, including Woodlands Circle, Tampines Plaza 1, Northpoint City in Yishun and Keat Hong Mall in Choa Chu Kang.
Website: edufirst.com.sg
Ask at the trial: Is there a Sec 3 Malay class at this branch in 2027? How many students are in it? Who teaches Malay, and is the class split by G2 and G3?
Pasir Ris Central CC Malay creative writing course
What is distinctive. A community course listed on onePA, run by Pasir Ris Central Community Club. It is a hands-on Malay workshop for P1 to P6 on writing short stories and fables, covering story structure, characters and expression, with children using a digital app to write, edit and present their stories. It runs on four Tuesdays from 12 January to 2 February 2027, 5pm to 7pm, with a maximum of 20. The trainer is Karmin Bin Abbas.
Suits: a child who freezes at the karangan and would enjoy a short, low-cost course in the January holidays. Less suited to: a child who needs weekly PSLE preparation across all papers, since it is a four-session writing course.
Fees as published: S$120 to S$130 for the course. Registration closes on 12 January 2027.
Venue: Pasir Ris Central Community Club (East).
Website: onePA course listing
Ask before you book: Is the course split by lower and upper primary? Will my child write a full karangan with feedback? Does it cover picture-based compositions?
Pusat Bahasa Nusa
What is distinctive. A Malay language centre founded in 2012, run as a brand of Edufront Learning Centre. Its programme director, Cikgu Hayati Abdullah, is a former MOE teacher and Malay subject coordinator and the author of the "Saya Boleh Mengarang" composition series. It runs Malay Mastery classes from K2 to Sec 5, a separate karangan writing class for P3 to P6, and secondary classes split into G3, Express or IP and G2 or N(A). Lessons are 1.5 hours. The tutor to student ratio is 1 to 12, and classes taught by Cikgu Hayati can take up to 24. Lessons are also taught live online. It also publishes answer keys for national Malay papers. The centre states that many of its students scored AL1 at PSLE.
Suits: families who want a Malay-only team and a published fee, a child who needs karangan work on top of the main class, and families in the east, west or north. Less suited to: a child who needs a very small group, since the ratio is the largest published here.
Fees as published (2027, GST included): a month per subject is S$196.20 for P1, S$218.00 for P3, S$239.80 for P5 and S$250.70 for P6, then S$261.60 for Sec 1, S$305.20 for Sec 3 and S$327.00 for Sec 4 and 5. A one-off registration fee of S$32.70, a refundable deposit of S$50 per subject and an LMS and materials fee of S$65.40 per subject each semester apply. A trial lesson is S$10.90. Discounts apply for more than one subject. A class needs at least 2 students to start. The brochure does not say how many lessons a month covers, so our estimate assumes 4.
Branches: Elias Road and Pasir Ris Drive 4 (Pasir Ris), Tampines North Drive 1, Choa Chu Kang Central (Choa Chu Kang MRT, our reading), Woodlands Circle and Jurong West Street 81, plus live online.
Website: malaytuitionsg.com
Ask at the trial: How many children are in the P6 class at this branch? How many lessons are in a month? How often does the class do a timed oral with a video clip?
Eduprime
What is distinctive. A private tuition service that coaches the PSLE oral in English and the Mother Tongue languages, with a named Malay oral coach, Mdm Noraini B., who holds a degree in Malay Language. Lessons are one to one at home or online, or in small groups of 2 to 4 grouped by level, which run 90 minutes. Before the first lesson it records a short oral check.
Suits: a P5 or P6 child whose written Malay is fine but who loses marks in the reading aloud or the conversation. Less suited to: a child who needs help with the written papers, since this programme covers the oral only.
Fees as published: per 60-minute session, from S$33.15 with an online local tutor and from S$39 with a home tutor, with a minimum of 4 sessions. A one-time registration fee of S$15 applies. A small-group price is not published. A consultation of about 15 minutes is offered at no charge.
Branches: none. Lessons are at home, at a nearby study spot or online.
Website: eduprime.sg
Ask before you book: Will Mdm Noraini or another coach take the lessons? How many video conversation practices fit into 4 sessions? Is the group price lower than the one-to-one price?
Edupoint
What is distinctive. A home tuition agency with a Malay page that publishes hourly rates by exam level, with the lower end for undergraduate tutors and the upper end for current school teachers. It covers Primary, PSLE, Secondary, N and O Level, A Level, IP and IB Malay. It says online lessons cost about S$10 an hour less than home lessons.
Suits: families who want one-to-one Malay at home and a clear idea of the price by level. Less suited to: families who want a group class.
Fees as published: PSLE S$40 to S$90 an hour, N and O Level S$50 to S$100, A Level and IP S$60 to S$150. Registration and trial terms are not published.

FamilyTutor
What is distinctive. A home tuition agency with a Malay page and a table it labels as Singapore home tuition market rates, by level and tutor type. It says matching costs parents nothing and that there is no obligation to start until you are ready. Its form suggests lessons of 1.5 to 4 hours, with 2 hours marked as most common.
Suits: families who want one-to-one Malay at home and want to compare tutor types. Less suited to: families who want a group class or a published trial lesson.

Nanyang Learning
What is distinctive. A home tuition agency that says it has served families since 2005, with a Malay-only rate table split by five tutor types, from diploma holders to NIE-trained school teachers. It lists Primary Standard, Higher and Foundation Malay, PSLE, N and O Level, Secondary Higher Malay and IP.
Suits: families who want to see the price difference between a student tutor and a school teacher for Malay. Less suited to: families who want online lessons or a group, since the Malay page describes one-to-one home tuition.
Fees as published: primary S$30 (diploma or A Level) to S$60 to S$80 (NIE school teacher) an hour. Secondary S$35 to S$45 up to S$70 to S$85. The page says these are based on rates quoted by tutors. A phone consultation is offered at no charge.
Office: Techplace II, 5008 Ang Mo Kio Avenue 5 (Ang Mo Kio).
Website: nanyanglearning.com
Ask before you book: Can I see the tutor's Malay teaching record? Does the tutor teach Higher Malay? What happens if the first lesson is not a good fit?
SmileTutor
What is distinctive. A home tuition agency with a Malay page that lists Primary, PSLE, Secondary, O Level, N Level, JC and IB Malay, and a general rate table for all subjects. Suits: parents who want the terms spelled out before they commit. Less suited to: parents who want a trial lesson before the first paid lesson.
Fees as published (all subjects): upper primary S$30 to S$40 (part-time), S$45 to S$55 (full-time) and S$60 to S$85 (school teachers) an hour. What PSLE and SEC Malay actually test
SEAB's PSLE Malay Language syllabus (0006) has three papers and 200 marks. These are the formats examined in 2026. SEAB had not posted 2027 PSLE formats when we checked.
| Paper | What it is | Time | Marks | Weighting |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 Karangan | One of two: a given topic or a picture series, at least 150 words, approved dictionary allowed | 50 min | 40 | 20% |
| 2 Language use and comprehension | Imbuhan 20, peribahasa 10, word class 10, comprehension 1 (10), phrases in a dialogue 8, comprehension 2 (32) | 1 h 40 min | 90 | 45% |
| 3 Oral | Reading aloud from a screen (20), then a conversation after a 55 to 60 second video (30), with 10 minutes to prepare | About 15 min | 50 | 25% |
| 3 Listening | 10 multiple-choice items on 7 texts | About 30 min | 20 | 10% |
- marks in PSLE Malay
- 200
- marks in oral and listening together, 35% of the result
- 70
- marks in comprehension 2, the largest single section
- 32
- marks out of 200 for AL1, by our arithmetic
- 180
MOE grades PSLE Malay by percentage: AL1 is 90% and above, AL2 is 85 to 89% and AL3 is 80 to 84%. On 200 marks that means 180 for AL1, 170 for AL2 and 160 for AL3. Imbuhan alone carries 20 marks, the same as the whole listening paper, so ask a centre how often it drills affixes in context. Higher Malay (0016) is a separate 100-mark paper with no oral: a karangan of at least 180 words (40%) and language use and comprehension (60%). It is graded Distinction, Merit or Pass outside the PSLE Score. Foundation Malay (0026) puts 55% on the oral and 30% on listening. Our AL scores guide explains how one subject moves the total.
From 2027, secondary students sit the Singapore-Cambridge SEC, with all Mother Tongue written papers in one September sitting.
| SEC 2027 syllabus | Paper 1 writing | Paper 2 language and comprehension | Oral | Listening |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Malay G3 (K321, was 1148) | 60 marks, 30%, 2 h: functional writing of 120 words or more and a karangan of 240 words or more | 70 marks, 35%, 1 h 30 min | 50 marks, 25%: reading aloud 10, conversation 40 | 20 marks, 10% |
| Malay G2 (K221, was 1197) | 60 marks, 30%: 100 and 200 words or more | 60 marks, 30%, on computer | 60 marks, 30%: reading aloud 20, conversation 40 | 20 marks, 10% |
| Higher Malay (K356, was 1117) | 80 marks, 40%, 2 h: 140 and 380 words or more | 80 marks, 40%, 1 h 45 min, with a 12-mark summary | 40 marks, 20%: a talk of up to 2 minutes (20) and a discussion (20) | None |
The G3 conversation is worth 40 of 200 marks, four times the reading aloud, so a secondary class should spend real time on discussing a video clip. Our SEC Mother Tongue guide covers the single sitting, and the Higher Mother Tongue guide covers who qualifies and what it adds.

Centre, home tutor or online?
| Point | Malay group class | One-to-one tutor, at home or online |
|---|---|---|
| Cost per hour | About S$33 to S$58 where fee and length are published, shared with the class | S$25 to S$80 at primary and S$30 to S$95 at secondary, from our rate card, by tutor type |
| Who sets the pace | The class programme and its timetable | The tutor, around your child's weakest paper |
| Oral practice | Varies, so ask how often a video conversation is practised | Can be part of every lesson, with the child speaking most of the hour |
| Karangan feedback | Varies, so ask to see marked scripts | Each script can be gone through line by line |
| Best for | A child who is keeping up and enjoys speaking with others | A child who is shy to speak Malay in a group, or one weak paper such as imbuhan or the conversation |
Malay centres are few and far apart, so for many families the real choice is travel time. A group hour costs less because it is shared. At secondary level, a one-to-one hour with a part-time tutor can cost less than a published class hour, and it spends the whole hour on one child. Our pricing page has the full TSS rate card.

How to choose
- Find the paper that costs marksLook at your child's last marked Malay paper. Karangan, imbuhan and peribahasa, comprehension and the oral each need different practice.
- Check the streamMatch the class to Standard, Higher or Foundation Malay at primary, and to G1, G2, G3 or Higher Malay at secondary.
- Check the class actually runsWith few Malay centres, ask for the 2027 timetable at your branch before you pay a deposit.
- Check the real costAdd registration, deposit and materials to the lesson fee, and work out the cost per hour with GST.
- Book a trial with a marked scriptBring a recent karangan and ask the teacher to work on your child's real errors.
At the trial, check these five things:
| Check | A good answer looks like |
|---|---|
| Oral | Reading aloud with feedback on pronunciation, plus a conversation after a short video, through the year |
| Karangan | A marked script with comments, and a rewrite the following week |
| Language use | Affixes, proverbs and word classes practised in sentences, not only lists |
| Who talks | Your child speaks Malay for a real share of the lesson |
| Progress record | A dated record of marks by paper, shared with you |
A centre teaching 10 or more students at a time should appear in MOE's private schools search, though registration is not a mark of quality.
If one-to-one sounds right, our Malay tuition page explains how we match tutors by level, and the PSLE Malay subject page sets out what we cover.
Common questions
Which is the best Malay tuition centre in Singapore?
It depends on the need. From our comparison, Pusat Bahasa Nusa is the Malay specialist with a published fee, EduReach has the smallest published classes and Higher Malay groups, and Edufirst has the most branches at secondary level.
How much does PSLE Malay tuition cost in 2027?
Where fee and lesson length are published, a primary Malay group class costs about S$33 to S$42 an hour, from fees read on 8 November 2026. One-to-one services publish about S$25 to S$90 an hour at primary, depending on the tutor.
How much is O Level or SEC Malay tuition?
Published secondary group fees work out to about S$44 to S$58 an hour. One-to-one services publish about S$30 to S$105 an hour for upper secondary, by tutor type.
How is PSLE Malay marked?
Out of 200 marks: karangan 40 (20%), language use and comprehension 90 (45%), oral 50 (25%) and listening 20 (10%). The result is an AL from 1 to 8, with AL1 at 90% and above.
How long must a PSLE Malay karangan be?
At least 150 words, on a given topic or a picture series, in 50 minutes, and an approved dictionary is allowed. Higher Malay asks for at least 180 words.
What changes for secondary Malay in 2027?
The SEC replaces the O Level, and all Mother Tongue written papers move to one sitting in September, with no mid-year paper. G3 Malay is K321, G2 Malay is K221 and Higher Malay is K356.
Is there Higher Malay tuition?
Yes. EduReach runs separate Higher Malay classes at P5, P6, Sec 3 and Sec 4, and Pusat Bahasa Nusa covers Higher Malay in its secondary G3 and IP classes. Several one-to-one services also list Higher Malay.
Do these centres offer trial lessons?
Pusat Bahasa Nusa charges S$10.90 for a trial lesson and EduReach S$20. Eduprime and Nanyang Learning offer a consultation at no charge, and SmileTutor states it does not offer a trial lesson.
Is a centre or a home tutor better for Malay?
Neither in general. A small class suits a child who is keeping up and enjoys speaking with others, while one-to-one suits a shy speaker or a child with one weak paper, and it saves travel where no centre is near.
How much is one-to-one Malay tuition through TSS?
From our rate card, S$25 to S$80 an hour at primary and S$30 to S$95 at secondary, by level and tutor type. The same rates apply at home or online.
