Best Sec 1 and 2 Science Tuition Centres in Singapore (2027): 10 Compared

Written and reviewed by Theon Teo, Founder · editorial policy

Ten lower secondary science tuition centres in Singapore side by side for Sec 1 and Sec 2: published fees turned into a cost per hour, class sizes, branches with the nearest MRT, trial terms, and how Sec 1 and 2 Science leads into the Sec 3 choice between pure sciences and Combined Science.

The best Sec 1 science tuition centre depends on budget, area and how your child learns. For the lowest published fee, Genie Education Hub in Bukit Batok and Yishun charges about S$31 to S$32 an hour, all in, with classes capped at 10. For a structured exam-technique class with named teachers and a fixed fee, The Pique Lab at GR.iD in Selegie charges S$110 a 2-hour lesson. For ex-MOE teachers at a published fee, SG Physics, Chemistry & Math teaches lower secondary science in Bishan, Bukit Timah and Marine Parade at S$75 plus GST a lesson. For hands-on experiments in small groups, Science Studios runs lessons at Balmoral, Bukit Timah Plaza and Katong. For weekday evening and weekend slots in the north and east, The Science Academy publishes a full Sec 1 and Sec 2 timetable at Tampines, Toa Payoh and Woodlands, at S$300 a month.

Lower secondary science is the bridge between PSLE Science and the separate sciences of Sec 3. It is where many students first meet atoms, electric circuits and the particle model, and where the Sec 3 subject choice starts to take shape. Centres quote fees per lesson, per month, per 8-week term or not at all. This guide lists each fee exactly as published and then works out a comparable cost per hour. Every fact was read on the centre's own website on 8 November 2026. Where a fact is not on the centre's site, we say "not published" rather than guess.

How we chose these centres

We searched Google for "sec 1 science tuition", "sec 2 science tuition", "lower secondary science tuition centre" and "secondary science tuition singapore". We noted the centres that rank and the ones named by other top lists, then kept the centres that pass all four tests below.

  1. Teaches Sec 1 and 2 Science by nameThe centre has its own lower secondary, Sec 1 or Sec 2 Science page, or Sec 1 and Sec 2 Science classes on its timetable.
  2. Publishes its programmeIts website shows at least the fee, the timetable, the class size, the topics or the named teachers.
  3. Runs active branchesIt lists current addresses, and most show a 2027 timetable or 2027 registration.
  4. Spread of area, price and approachTogether, the 10 cover every region, one-branch and many-branch centres, and a range of fees and class sizes.

All facts were checked on 8 November 2026. Fees often change each January, so confirm the current figure before you pay. No centre paid to appear here, and the detail section is in alphabetical order, not a ranking. Some centres also appear in our Sec 1 and 2 round-up and our Combined Science round-up. Here we look only at their lower secondary Science classes.

Future Academy, Genie Education Hub and The Science Academy do not state GST on their science pages, so we did not add it. Genie describes its fee as all in. Prices for 2 or more subjects are lower at Genie, The Science Academy, SG Physics, Chemistry & Math, Future Academy and Zenith.

Google ratings appear only where we could read them on the centre's own page. A blank means we did not verify one, not that the centre has none.

The 10 centres in detail

Future Academy

What is distinctive. Future Academy teaches Science at Sec 1 and Sec 2 only, and refers students to separate Physics, Chemistry and Biology classes from Sec 3. Its lower secondary page focuses on fixing misconceptions early, inquiry skills such as variables, fair tests and controls, answering with accurate keywords, and lab readiness, including safety, recording observations and using apparatus. Groups run at a maximum ratio of one teacher to six students, and lessons are 2 hours.

Suits: a Sec 1 or Sec 2 student in the centre who wants a small group and practice at writing "explain" answers. May not suit: a family looking for the lowest fee, since its published package is the highest per hour here.

Fees as published: S$528 a month for a standard package of 4 two-hour lessons, or S$1,584 for a 13-lesson term package that charges for 12. This is the price for its Sec 1 to 4, O-Level and IP package, which covers the Sciences. Registration is S$20, and a S$150 security deposit is fully refundable. There are no material fees. What Sec 1 and 2 Science covers

Every school teaches lower secondary science from MOE's G2/G3 Lower Secondary Science syllabus, in use since the 2021 Sec 1 cohort, with the current edition dated 2024. MOE describes it as a bridge from Primary Science to the separate sciences at upper secondary. It is one general science subject, not three, and it is built on five themes and 16 topics. Some items are marked optional for G2. G1 students follow their own G1 syllabus.

ThemeTopics in the MOE syllabus
The Scientific Endeavour1. The Scientific Endeavour
Diversity2. Matter by its physical properties, 3. Matter by its chemical composition, 4. Separation techniques
Models5. Ray model of light, 6. Cells, 7. The particulate nature of matter, 8. Atoms and molecules
Interactions9. Forces and transfer of energy, 10. Heat and its effects, 11. Chemical changes, 12. Interactions within ecosystems
Systems13. Electrical systems, 14. Human digestive system, 15. Transport systems in living things, 16. Human sexual reproductive system

MOE does not fix which topics fall in Sec 1 and which in Sec 2, so ask your child's school for its content outline. As one example, Yishun Secondary's 2026 G2/G3 outline teaches topics 1 to 8 in Sec 1 and topics 9 to 16 in Sec 2, and its Sec 2 end-of-year exam also revisits four Sec 1 topics. Our Sec 1 guide and Sec 2 guide set out the year in more detail, and our lower secondary science page summarises the topics.

Subject levels in Sec 1

Under Full Subject-Based Banding, Science is offered at G1, G2 and G3. A student's Posting Group sets most of their subject levels in Sec 1, but Science can start at a more demanding level based on the PSLE Science grade. A student in Posting Group 2 with AL5 or better in Standard Science can take Science at G3. A student in Posting Group 1 with AL5 or better can take G2 or G3, and AL6 in Standard or AL A in Foundation opens G2. Students can also move down a level and later move back up as their results improve. Our Full SBB explainer covers the rules.

School assessments, not national exams

There is no national Science exam in Sec 1 or Sec 2. MOE removed the Sec 1 mid-year exam from 2019, and MOE says students now get feedback through weighted assessments and classroom assignments. The syllabus adds that teachers can assess through practical work, projects, posters and model-making as well as written papers, and that end-of-year exams should cover a representative sample of the two years. Each school sets its own weightings, so check the assessment plan your school sends home.

  1. Sec 1, Terms 1 to 4Topics 1 to 8 at Yishun Secondary, for exampleWeighted assessments each term, then an end-of-year exam
  2. Sec 2, Terms 1 to 3Topics 9 to 16Weighted assessments that count towards the year result
  3. Sec 2, August to OctoberSubject combination briefing and choicesSchools explain Sec 3 options, and students rank their choices
  4. Sec 2, October to NovemberEnd-of-year exam and allocationOne school's 2027 plan gives results in mid-November and final classes in late November

The Sec 3 choice: pure sciences or Combined Science

Science stays compulsory in upper secondary, and the Sec 1 and 2 results decide which form it takes. From 2027 the exam is the Singapore-Cambridge Secondary Education Certificate (SEC). At G3, SEAB lists pure Physics (K323), Chemistry (K324) and Biology (K325), and three Combined Science pairs: Physics with Chemistry (K326), Physics with Biology (K327) and Chemistry with Biology (K328). At G2, SEAB lists only the Combined Science pairs, K223, K224 and K225.

Schools allocate combinations on results, student choice and the number of places. Each school sets its own bar. As one example, a school's 2027 Sec 3 briefing asks for at least 65% overall in G3 Science and G3 Maths for Physics and Chemistry with G3 Additional Maths, and holds the subject choice exercise after the Sec 2 end-of-year exam. Our Combined Science guide explains the pairs and the papers.

Centre, home tutor or online?

The cheapest hour is usually a centre group class. The most tailored hour is one-to-one. Here is how the published centre fees above compare with the Sec 1 and 2 rates on our rate card.

ExperimentsSome centres run hands-on activities in classUsually explanation and practice questions
Best forA student who keeps up and wants structure and peersA student who is behind, anxious, or aiming for Pure Sciences in Sec 3

A worked example: one 2-hour Sec 1 class a week costs S$62 at Genie, S$110 at The Pique Lab and S$132 at Future Academy, on their published fees. One 1.5-hour lesson a week with a part-time tutor at S$30 to S$45 an hour costs S$45 to S$67.50, and with a full-time tutor at S$45 to S$60 an hour it costs S$67.50 to S$90. Many families start Sec 1 with a group class and add a few one-to-one sessions before the Sec 2 end-of-year exam that decides the Sec 3 combination.

Online classes suit students who will ask questions on screen. Future Academy, SG Physics, Chemistry & Math, The Pique Lab and The Science Academy offer live online lessons.

How to choose a Sec 1 or Sec 2 science tuition centre

  1. Check the level and the school's topic orderConfirm whether your child takes Science at G1, G2 or G3, and get the school's content outline so the centre's plan lines up with it.
  2. Find the weak strandLook at the last weighted assessment by topic. Atoms and molecules and the particle model of matter go beyond Primary Science, so check those first.
  3. Compare cost per hourTurn every quote into a cost per hour, and add registration, deposit and GST. Our table does this for published fees.
  4. Book one trialTrials range from no charge to a full lesson fee. Ask what it costs before you book.
  5. Review after a termCompare the next weighted assessment with the last. If nothing has changed after about 6 to 8 lessons, ask the centre for a plan or switch.
  6. Plan for the Sec 3 choiceBy the start of Sec 2, ask the school what results it expects for Pure Sciences, so tuition can target that bar.

Trial-lesson checklist

  • Is this class for my child's level, G3, G2 or G1, or a mixed class?
  • Does the topic plan follow my child's school, or a fixed order?
  • How many students are in this exact slot?
  • Who teaches the class, and do they stay all year?
  • How are "explain" and experiment questions practised, not only recall?

Common questions

How much does Sec 1 science tuition cost at a centre in Singapore?

Among the centres that publish a fee, a 2-hour lesson costs about S$62 to S$132 and monthly fees run from S$300 to S$528, as checked on 8 November 2026. That works out to roughly S$31 to S$66 an hour, before registration, deposit or GST where these apply.

What is the best Sec 1 science tuition centre in Singapore?

There is no single best centre. Genie Education Hub stands out for the lowest published fee, The Pique Lab for a structured exam-technique plan, SG Physics, Chemistry & Math for ex-MOE teachers, Science Studios for experiments and Stalford and Zenith for the most branches.

Does my child need science tuition in Sec 1?

Not always. It is worth considering when the first weighted assessments show gaps in topics that go beyond Primary Science, such as atoms and molecules, or when your child is aiming for Pure Sciences in Sec 3.

What topics are in Sec 1 and Sec 2 Science?

MOE's G2/G3 syllabus has 16 topics in five themes, from separation techniques, light and cells to electricity, chemical changes and human body systems. Each school sets its own order. Yishun Secondary, for example, teaches the first 8 in Sec 1 and the rest in Sec 2.

Is there a national exam for lower secondary science?

No. Sec 1 and Sec 2 Science are assessed by each school through weighted assessments, classroom tasks and an end-of-year exam. The first national Science exam is the SEC at the end of Sec 4.

How do Sec 2 results affect pure or Combined Science in Sec 3?

Schools allocate Sec 3 combinations on Sec 2 results, student choice and places available. Pure Physics, Chemistry and Biology are G3 subjects, and each school sets its own bar.

Can my child take Pure Sciences if they are at G2 Science?

SEAB lists only Combined Science pairs at G2 for the SEC. A student who wants Pure Sciences usually needs to move up to G3 Science, which schools decide on results.

Which centres have the smallest lower secondary science classes?

Future Academy states a maximum ratio of 1:6, and SG Physics, Chemistry & Math says weekday groups are about 5 to 6. Genie Education Hub caps classes at 10, and Science Studios runs 4 to 16.

Which centres offer a trial at no charge?

Genie Education Hub, Indigo and Zenith offer a trial at no charge. SG Physics, Chemistry & Math gives 50% off the first lesson, The Science Academy charges S$75 plus an admin fee, and The Pique Lab charges S$110.

Are these centres paid to be listed?

No. We chose them by the criteria above and took every fact from each centre's own website on 8 November 2026.
