Best H2 Biology Tuition in Singapore (2027): 10 JC Centres Compared

Written and reviewed by Theon Teo, Founder · editorial policy

Ten H2 Biology tuition centres for JC students side by side: published fees turned into a cost per hour, class sizes, branches with the nearest MRT, trial terms and what to ask, plus what the new 9477 exam and its Paper 4 practical test.

The best H2 Biology tuition centre depends on what your child needs. For a former MOE biology teacher who teaches every class himself, look at Higher Nucleus (Bukit Timah and Bishan). For the smallest published groups, Future Academy keeps to 1 teacher for 6 students and Pamela's Place caps classes at 7, both near Beauty World. For Paper 4 practical work, Eclat Institute caps classes at 8 in Jurong East and runs biology practicals at its own Henderson lab. In the east and north, MACRO Academy teaches at Siglap and Kovan, and The Science Academy at Tampines Hub and Woodlands Square. The lowest published cost per hour is about S$50 at Singapore Learner in Bukit Batok, S$400 a month for weekly 2-hour lessons.

This guide lists each centre's fees exactly as published, then works out a comparable cost per hour, because centres quote per month, per package or per lesson. Every fact was read on the centre's own website on 8 November 2026. If a fact is not on the centre's site, we say "not published" rather than guess. This list is for JC students only. For O-Level, G3 and IP Biology centres, see our biology tuition centres guide.

How we chose these centres

We searched Google for "h2 biology tuition singapore", "a level biology tuition", "jc biology tuition centre" and "best h2 bio tuition", and noted the centres that rank and the ones other top lists name. We then kept centres that meet the tests below.

  1. Teaches JC H2 Biology as a named classThe centre runs JC1 or JC2 H2 Biology as its own programme. We favoured biology and JC specialists over general centres.
  2. Publishes its programmeIts website shows the fee, the timetable, the teacher or the class format for H2 Biology.
  3. Runs active branchesIt lists a current address, a 2026 or 2027 timetable, or both.
  4. Spread of area, price and styleTogether the 10 cover every region, small and large classes, on-site and online, and a range of fees.

Few biology centres publish a full set of facts. Four of the centres here do not publish an H2 Biology fee, and one (Singapore Learner) still shows a 2025 timetable. We kept them because they run JC Biology classes at a current address, and each entry marks what is not published.

All facts were checked on 8 November 2026. Fees often change in January, so confirm the current figure before you pay. No centre paid to appear here. The detail section is in alphabetical order, not a ranking.

The 10 H2 Biology tuition centres compared

The per-hour figure is our own estimate. We divided the published fee by the published lesson hours. Where a centre does not publish its fee or lesson length, we could not work it out.

The 10 centres in detail

Aspire Hub

What is distinctive. Aspire Hub lists H1 and H2 Biology among its JC subjects at 14 branches, plus live online classes. Its JC Biology page says Paper 4 practical skills, such as experimental design, error analysis and data interpretation, are introduced early, and that lessons include timed full-paper practice with marking and free-response essay technique. The page does not name its biology coaches and still refers to the older H2 syllabus code, 9744.

Suits: a student who wants a branch near home or school in almost any region. May not suit: a family that wants to compare a standard fee, class size or teacher before calling, since none is published.

Fees as published: The standard fee is not published. The only price shown is a time-limited promotion, which we have not quoted. A trial session is arranged at the branch you choose, with terms not published.

Branches: Alexandra Village (Queenstown MRT), Bukit Timah (Beauty World MRT), Novena (United Square), Bedok Mall (Bedok MRT), Parkway Parade (Marine Parade MRT), Paya Lebar Quarter (Paya Lebar MRT), Hillion Mall (Bukit Panjang MRT), Jurong Point (Boon Lay MRT), West Mall (Bukit Batok MRT), NEX (Serangoon MRT), Seletar Mall (Fernvale LRT), Woodleigh Mall (Woodleigh MRT), Kovan (Kovan MRT) and Lentor Modern (Lentor MRT). The page does not say which branches run H2 Biology.

Website: aspirehub.com

Ask at the trial: Which branch runs H2 Biology on the day we need, and how many students are in it? Are the notes written for 9477? What is the standard fee once any promotion ends?

Eclat Institute

What is distinctive. Eclat teaches H2 Biology to the SEAB 9477 syllabus in classes of up to 8, with four 1.5-hour lessons a month. The named tutor, Mr Azmi, is a senior science tutor who holds an NUS degree in chemistry and biochemistry, a Master of Science and an NIE teaching diploma, and the site states he taught in MOE schools for 18 years. Paper 4 skills such as planning, presenting data, evaluating results and microscopy are practised through the year, and biology practicals run at the centre's Henderson Road lab.

Suits: a west-side student who wants a small class and regular practical work. May not suit: a student who wants 2-hour lessons, since lessons are 1.5 hours.

Fees as published: S$360 to S$400 a month for one subject, depending on the month a student joins: S$360 for October to February, S$380 for March to June and S$400 for July to September. Continuing students pay S$360 a month the next year. Holiday classes, Paper 4 intensives and practical clinics are quoted separately. Registration, deposit and trial terms are not published.

Branches: Vision Exchange, 2 Venture Drive #16-07, for theory lessons (Jurong East MRT). Practical lab at 221 Henderson Road #05-09. The site's one-north office is for talks only.

Website: eclatinstitute.sg

Ask at the trial: Which practical sessions are included in the monthly fee? Is there a trial lesson, and what does it cost? Which slot does Mr Azmi teach?

Future Academy

What is distinctive. Future Academy keeps H2 Biology groups to a maximum of 1 teacher for 6 students, the smallest published ratio on this list. Its biology classes are taught by specialist educators from its wider team, some of them former MOE teachers from RGS, Hwa Chong and RI, though the page does not name them. It is also the only centre here that publishes its fee, registration, deposit and notice terms in full.

Suits: a student who wants a very small group in central Singapore and a family that wants every cost in writing first. May not suit: a family that wants to try a lesson before paying for a package, since there is no trial.

Fees as published: S$616 for a package of 4 two-hour lessons, or S$1,848 for a 13-lesson term (12 lessons paid, 1 extra). A one-time S$20 registration fee and a refundable S$150 deposit apply. There are no material fees. A second subject is 5% off and a third 10% off. Stopping needs a month's notice. There is no trial lesson. The site suggests starting with one 4-lesson package.

Branches: Burlington Square, 175A Bencoolen Street #06-05 (opposite Rochor MRT Exit A). Bukit Timah Shopping Centre, 170 Upper Bukit Timah Road #10-02 (next to Beauty World MRT Exit A). OnePeople.sg, 381 Lorong 1 Toa Payoh #01-12 (beside Braddell MRT Exit B).

Website: futureacademy.sg

Ask at the trial: Who exactly teaches the H2 Biology class, and what is their background? Which branch runs it? Is H2 Biology offered online?

Higher Nucleus

What is distinctive. Every JC Biology class is taught by Mr Alex Xu, who has taught in MOE schools since 2011. He holds a BSc in Biological Sciences from NTU with First Class Honours, was an NTU President Research Scholar and holds an NIE teaching diploma in secondary and JC biology. Weekly lessons are 2 hours, with cheat sheets, question banks, timed practice and regular quizzes. The JC page sets out the 9477 papers in full.

Suits: a student who wants one experienced biology teacher all year, in Bukit Timah or Bishan. May not suit: a student who wants a very small group, since classes can hold up to 14, or a family that wants to compare fees online.

Fees as published: Not published. The site invites families to book a trial lesson, and says staff will advise whether a trial is available.

Branches: Bukit Timah Shopping Centre, 170 Upper Bukit Timah Road #04-44/45 (Beauty World MRT Exit A, about 2 minutes' walk). 260 Bishan Street 22 #B1-295 (walking distance from Bishan MRT). The 2026 timetable has JC1 on Saturday morning at Bukit Timah and Sunday morning at Bishan, and four JC2 slots across both branches.

Website: highernucleus.com.sg

Ask at the trial: What is the monthly fee? How many students are in this slot? When will the 2027 timetable be released?

Irene Biology Learning Centre

What is distinctive. Irene Biology is a biology centre founded by Ms Irene Liu, whom the site describes as the author of assessment books used in Singapore schools. JC1 and JC2 classes for 2027 are listed under Mr Yuan, in person, and a separate A-Level H2 Biology class with Ms Liu runs on site and on Zoom. In-person classes hold 6 to 8 students.

Suits: a student near Beauty World who wants a biology-only centre with a published JC fee. May not suit: a family that wants a fixed JC1 slot now, since the 2027 JC1 timing is marked tentative.

Fees as published: S$480 for 4 lessons for JC1 and JC2, with 2-hour lessons. A 50% deposit secures a seat. A trial class is offered, with terms not published.

Branch: Beauty World Centre, 144 Upper Bukit Timah Road #03-34. The schedule page also mentions classes in Orchard, but no Orchard address is given. The 2027 JC2 classes run on Thursday 6pm to 8pm and Friday 6.30pm to 8.30pm.

Website: biologytuitionsg.com

Ask at the trial: Does my child join Mr Yuan's class or Ms Liu's? Is there an Orchard class, and where? What does the trial cost?

MACRO Academy

What is distinctive. MACRO Academy runs JC1 and JC2 H2 Biology with 50 lessons across the year and classes capped at 10. Its Head of Biology, Amias Goh, is listed as a three-time Dean's List student, alongside co-founder Jay Lim. Lessons are built on active recall, with students retrieving and applying content every session. The page header still shows the older code 9744, while its curriculum section says it follows 9477.

Suits: a student in the east or north-east who wants a capped class near an MRT station. May not suit: a family that wants to compare fees online first.

Fees as published: Not published. The page asks families to contact the centre for current rates. A 2-hour trial is offered at no charge.

Branches: 246C Upper Thomson Road (3 minutes from Upper Thomson MRT). Bukit Timah Plaza, 1 Jalan Anak Bukit #02-34/38 (10 minutes from Beauty World MRT). Stars of Kovan, 988 Upper Serangoon Road #01-14 (1 minute from Kovan MRT). Siglap Centre, 55 Siglap Road #02-30 (2 minutes from Siglap MRT).

Website: macroacademy.org

Ask at the trial: What is the monthly fee and lesson length? Which slots run at the branch nearest us? Are the notes fully updated to 9477?

Pamela's Place

What is distinctive. Pamela's Place is a small biology and chemistry centre where Ms Pamela, who holds a Bachelor's degree in Biological Sciences (Biomedicine), has taught biology for over 12 years across O-Level, IP and H2. H2 classes are capped at 7, can be joined in person or online, and include notes and worksheets. Missed lessons can be made up in another slot or with a recording. The H2 page still describes the older 9744 syllabus.

Suits: a student near Beauty World who wants a small class with one teacher, with an online option. May not suit: a family that wants a published fee before enquiring.

Fees as published: Not published. The site says it does not publish a fixed rate and gives a quote on request. There is no registration fee, and materials are included. A trial lesson is offered with no obligation to continue.

Branch: The LINQ @ Beauty World, 118 Upper Bukit Timah Road #02-20 (directly above Beauty World MRT Exit D).

Website: pamelasplace.com.sg

Ask at the trial: What is the monthly fee and lesson length? Have the notes been updated from 9744 to 9477? How is Paper 4 practised?

Singapore Learner

What is distinctive. Singapore Learner runs JC1 and JC2 H1 and H2 Biology classes of up to 8 at Bukit Batok, with 2-hour sessions and some Saturday slots online. The tutor is described as a former MOE teacher with an NUS honours degree in chemistry and a minor in biology. Lessons mix content revision, topical and yearly practice and mock exams, and students can bring questions from school. It also teaches Millennia Institute students.

Suits: a west-side student who wants the lowest published cost per hour in a small class. May not suit: a family that wants a current timetable online, since the page still shows its 2025 schedule and the old JC2 code 9744.

Fees as published: S$400 a month and a S$30 registration fee. The first hour of consultation is at no charge. A trial lesson is offered at no charge.

Branch: Blk 644 Bukit Batok Central #01-68 (about 3 minutes' walk from Bukit Batok MRT).

Website: singaporelearner.com

Ask at the trial: How many lessons does the monthly fee cover? What are the 2027 slots? Which slots are on site and which online?

The Science Academy

What is distinctive. The Science Academy runs H2 Biology at three branches. Its biology teacher, Mr Nicholas Yu, holds a BSc in Biological Sciences and has taught for over 10 years. Lessons move from whole-body systems down to molecules, link concepts across chapters, and split time between lecture and discussion, with in-house notes and video resources.

Suits: a JC student in the east or north who wants a class near an MRT station. May not suit: a family that wants a published class size or lesson length, since neither is on the JC Biology page.

Fees as published: S$400 a month for one subject, S$380 for a second and S$360 for a third. The number of lessons a month, lesson length, class size, registration and deposit are not published on the JC Biology page. A trial lesson costs S$100, excluding an admin fee.

Branches: Our Tampines Hub, 1 Tampines Walk #B1-19 (nearest MRT not listed). 11 Woodlands Square #B1-29 (Woodlands MRT). 192 Lorong 4 Toa Payoh #01-674 (nearest MRT not listed).

Website: thescienceacademy.sg

Ask at the trial: Which branch runs the JC1 or JC2 biology slot we need? How many lessons and hours does the monthly fee cover? What is the admin fee?

Zenith Education Studio

What is distinctive. Zenith has the widest network here, 14 branches, and names four JC Biology tutors. They include Derek Tan, a former Senior Teacher of Biology at Raffles Institution and curriculum planning officer at MOE, and Joshua Tan, who holds an NIE teaching diploma and an Imperial College London master's degree. Lessons are 2 hours a week, missed lessons can be made up that week or watched as a recording, and the course covers both 9477 extension topics. The centre states that 90.3% of its 2024 JC batch scored A or B.

Suits: a student who learns well in a lecture-style class and wants a branch near home. May not suit: a student who needs individual attention in class, since classes hold up to 60.

Fees as published: S$420 a month for one subject before GST, for 4 weekly 2-hour lessons. Two subjects cost S$760 a month. A deposit of S$400 per subject is refunded in the final month, and withdrawal needs a month's notice. There are no material or registration fees. A trial class is offered at no charge, with terms not published.

Branches: Bishan, Bukit Panjang, Bukit Timah, Buona Vista, Jurong East, Jurong Point, King Albert Park, Kovan, Marymount/Upper Thomson, Paya Lebar, Potong Pasir, Serangoon, Tampines and Woodlands. The JC Biology page does not say which branches run H2 Biology slots.

Website: zenitheducationstudio.com

Ask at the trial: Which branch runs H2 Biology on the day we need? Which tutor teaches that slot? How many students are in it?

What does the H2 Biology exam actually test?

H2 Biology is syllabus 9477. It was first examined in 2026 alongside the old 9744, which SEAB marks as last examined in 2026. From 2027, 9477 is the only H2 Biology syllabus on SEAB's list. SEAB describes 9477 as refining and updating 9744, and it assumes O-Level Biology without revisiting those topics. Every candidate sits all four papers.

PaperFormatTimeMarksWeighting
Paper 130 compulsory multiple-choice questions, four options each1 hour3015%
Paper 2Structured questions, all compulsory, including data-based questions that link topics2 hours9030%
Paper 3Section A: 55 marks of long structured questions on stimulus material such as a journal extract. Section B: one free-response essay from a choice of two, 20 marks2 hours7535%
Paper 4Practical2 hours 30 minutes5020%

SEAB weights the skills as 36% knowledge with understanding, 44% handling, applying and evaluating information, and 20% experimental skills. That 44% is why practice on unfamiliar data and passages matters more than memorising notes. In the Paper 3 essay, part of the marks go to the quality of scientific argument and written communication. Students must also be able to use a t-test and a chi-squared test, which can appear in Papers 1 to 3. Calculators must be on SEAB's approved list.

Paper 4, the practical

Paper 4 is a 2.5-hour practical, and students may not bring notes. Planning an experiment carries 4% of the grade. The other 16% covers carrying out the work and taking measurements, presenting data and observations, and analysing and evaluating results. Students may be asked to use a light microscope, mount slides and measure with an eyepiece graticule and stage micrometer, and some questions test data handling without apparatus. School lab time is limited, so ask any centre how it trains planning and data analysis, which can be practised without a lab.

What the syllabus covers

The syllabus has four core ideas and two extension topics, studied by all candidates. The extension topics make up about 15% of the curriculum.

Our JC2 H2 Biology topic page sets out the syllabus in more detail. Grades run from A to E for a pass, then S and U, and an H2 A is worth 20 of the 70 rank points, as our A-Level grading system guide and rank points guide explain. If your child is still choosing between H1 and H2 Biology, see our JC subject combination guide.

Centre, home tutor or online?

The cheapest hour is usually a larger group class. The most tailored hour is one-to-one. Here is how the published centre fees above compare with the JC rates on our rate card.

PointCentre group classOne-to-one home tutor
Cost per hourAbout S$50 to S$77 where fees are published (centre fees above)S$45 to S$60 part-time, S$65 to S$90 full-time, S$90 to S$130 ex-MOE or MOE (our JC rate card)
Class size6 to 60, by centreOne student

PracticalLab work only where the centre has a labPlanning and data-analysis practice, no lab
Best forA student who keeps up and wants structure and classmatesA student who is behind, anxious, or aiming to turn a B into an A

A worked example: a JC1 student at Irene Biology pays S$480 for four 2-hour lessons, which is S$120 a week. One 1.5-hour lesson a week with a full-time tutor at S$65 to S$90 an hour costs S$97.50 to S$135 a week. Many families keep the weekly centre class and add a few one-to-one sessions before promos or prelims.

How to choose an H2 Biology tuition centre

  1. Start from the gapLook at the last school test. Losing marks on genetics, on essay answers, on data-based questions or on the practical? Pick a centre whose teacher and format fit that gap.
  2. Check the syllabus codeAsk whether the notes are written for 9477. Several centre pages still show 9744, and notes written for the old syllabus may not match the new structure.
  3. Compare cost per hourTurn every quote into a cost per hour, then add registration, deposit and GST. Our table does this for the published fees.
  4. Check the class size for your slotAsk for the number in the class your child would join, not the average.
  5. Ask about Paper 4It is 20% of the grade. Ask whether planning, microscopy and data-analysis questions are taught, and whether any lab work is included.
  6. Book one trialSome centres charge for the trial or offer none. Ask the cost and whether it is deducted if you enrol.
  7. Review after one monthCompare the next school test with the last. If nothing has moved after about 6 to 8 lessons, ask the centre for a plan or switch.

Trial-lesson checklist

  • Who teaches the class for the whole year, and who covers if they are away?
  • How many students are in this exact slot?
  • Are the notes matched to 9477, with timed Paper 2 and Paper 3 practice?
  • How is the free-response essay marked, and how often?
  • How are Paper 4 planning and the t-test and chi-squared test taught?
  • How are questions handled between lessons?
  • What does a missed lesson cost, and is there a recording?
  • What notice is needed to stop, and is any deposit refunded?

Common questions

How much does H2 Biology tuition at a centre cost in Singapore?

Among the centres that publish fees, checked on 8 November 2026, group classes cost S$360 to S$420 a month or S$480 to S$616 for four lessons. That works out to roughly S$50 to S$77 an hour before registration, deposit or GST.

What is the best H2 Biology tuition centre in Singapore?

There is no single best centre. Higher Nucleus has a former MOE biology teacher taking every class, Future Academy and Pamela's Place have the smallest published groups, Eclat Institute has its own practical lab, and Zenith has the most branches.

Which H2 Biology centres have the smallest classes?

Future Academy publishes a maximum of 1 teacher to 6 students and Pamela's Place a cap of 7. Eclat Institute and Singapore Learner cap classes at 8, MACRO Academy at 10, Higher Nucleus at 14 and Zenith at 60. Aspire Hub and The Science Academy do not publish a number.

Do H2 Biology centres offer trial lessons?

Most do. MACRO Academy, Singapore Learner and Zenith offer a trial at no charge, The Science Academy charges S$100 plus an admin fee, and Future Academy offers no trial. Aspire Hub, Higher Nucleus, Irene Biology and Pamela's Place offer trials without publishing the terms.

What is the H2 Biology syllabus code for 2027?

It is 9477, the only H2 Biology code on SEAB's 2027 list. It replaced 9744, which was last examined in 2026. H1 Biology is 8876 and H3 Biology is 9816.

How much is the H2 Biology practical worth?

Paper 4 is 20% of the grade, a 2.5-hour practical marked out of 50. Planning carries 4%, and the remaining 16% covers lab skills, presenting data and evaluating results.

What changed from 9744 to 9477?

SEAB describes 9477 as refining and updating 9744. It is organised as four core ideas and two extension topics, Infectious Diseases and the Impact of Climate Change on Animals and Plants, which make up about 15% of the curriculum. Ask any centre whether its notes were rewritten for 9477.

When should my child start H2 Biology tuition?

Starting in JC1, before promos, gives time to fix gaps in genetics and cell biology, which carry into JC2. Eclat Institute's lowest monthly fee is for students who join between October and February.

Is one-to-one tuition better than a centre for H2 Biology?

One-to-one follows a single student's weak topics and school schedule, which helps a student who is behind or anxious. It costs S$45 to S$130 an hour on our JC rate card, compared with about S$50 to S$77 at the centres above that publish fees.

Are these centres paid to be listed?

No. We chose them by the criteria above and took every fact from each centre's own website on 8 November 2026.
