What P6 English asks for

The Standard PSLE English paper (SEAB code 0001) is worth 200 marks: Paper 1 Writing 25 percent, Paper 2 Language Use and Comprehension 45 percent, Paper 3 Listening 10 percent and Paper 4 Oral 20 percent. The result becomes an Achievement Level from AL1 to AL8, added to the other three subjects.

English is spread across more of the year than any other subject. In 2026 the oral was on 12 and 13 August, listening on 15 September and the written papers on 24 September. SEAB had not published the 2027 timetable when this page was written, but the order has been the same: oral first, written papers last. So reading aloud and the photo conversation need work in Terms 1 and 2, and timed composition and the Paper 2 booklet run through Term 3.

Getting a tutor to your home in Tampines

  • EW2
  • DT32

Tampines is on two MRT lines: the East-West Line at Tampines and Simei, and the Downtown Line at Tampines West, Tampines and Tampines East. Many blocks are a short walk from one of the five stations. Tampines North is further from the trains, so tell us if you live there and give two or three possible slots. The rate is the same anywhere in the town.

Frequently asked questions

My child writes well but loses marks in Paper 2. What does a tutor do?

Paper 2, Language Use and Comprehension, is 45 percent of the Standard paper, the largest part. A tutor works through the booklet section by section, grammar, vocabulary, editing and comprehension, and tracks which question types lose marks. Composition practice continues, but less often.

Can lessons be at home on a weekday evening in Tampines?

Yes. Tutors come to your home after school or in the evening, and on weekends. Give us two or three slots when you book. With five MRT stations in the town, most tutors reach Tampines without a long trip.

How much does a P6 English tutor in Tampines cost?

The rate follows the level and the tutor type, not the town. For P6 English it is S$30 to S$40 an hour with a part-time tutor, S$40 to S$55 with a full-time tutor and S$60 to S$80 with an ex-MOE teacher. Worked example: a full-time tutor at S$50 an hour, for 1.5 hours once a week, costs S$300 for four lessons. There is no contract.

What should a P6 English tutor work on first?

The oral comes first in the PSLE calendar, so reading aloud and the photo-based conversation are worth starting in Term 1. The written papers come last. A good tutor marks practice pieces the way the paper is marked and shows which component loses the most marks, then spends the time there.
