Best IB Economics Tuition in Singapore (2027): 10 HL and SL Options

Written and reviewed by Theon Teo, Founder · editorial policy

Ten IB Economics tuition options in Singapore side by side: published fees turned into a per-hour cost, class sizes, separate HL and SL classes, IA help, branches with the nearest MRT, plus what Papers 1, 2 and 3 and the IA portfolio are worth.

The best IB Economics tuition depends on the level and the gap. For HL Paper 3 taught in its own class, look at The Economics Tutor (four centres including Eunos in the east) or KS Academia Prep (Orchard, HL and SL run as separate classes). For a former IB examiner, Learningminds Education is run by an ex-ACS (Independent) IB Economics teacher. For the smallest group, Photon Academy caps classes at 4. In the north, Ancourage Academy teaches IB Economics in Woodlands and Bishan. For recorded lessons you can replay, look at ETG at Bukit Timah. The lowest published group cost is KS Academia Prep at about S$55 an hour, and the lowest one-to-one rate is TutorChase online from S$60 an hour.

Every fact about a provider was read on its own website on 8 November 2026. Where a provider does not publish a fact, we say "not published" rather than guess. One-to-one IB tuition on our pricing page runs from S$45 to S$130 an hour, and our IB tuition page shows how we match a tutor to the course, level and paper.

How we chose these providers

We searched Google for "ib economics tuition singapore", "ib econs tuition", "ib economics hl tutor" and "ib economics ia help", and noted the centres and tutors that rank and the ones other top 10 lists name. We kept providers that pass all four tests below, and dropped those whose own site had no IB Economics detail or no longer loads.

  1. Teaches IB Economics by nameA dedicated IB Economics page or class, for Year 5 and Year 6 (DP1 and DP2), not only a general A-Level or IGCSE class.
  2. Publishes its programmeIts own site shows the levels taught and at least one of the fee, timetable, class size or teacher.
  3. Is active nowA current Singapore address, a 2027 timetable, or a live booking page.
  4. A useful spreadTogether the 10 cover HL and SL, centres and online tutors, several regions, and a range of prices.

All facts were checked on 8 November 2026. Fees often change in January, so confirm the figure before you pay. The detail section is alphabetical, not a ranking. Our own 1-to-1 service is in a separate box after the list, and it is not ranked.

The per-hour figure is our own estimate. We divided the published fee by the published lesson hours. Where a provider does not publish both, we could not work it out.

The 10 providers in detail

++tutors

What is distinctive. ++tutors is an online IB tutoring service with a page for Singapore families. Lessons are one-to-one on a virtual classroom with a shared whiteboard and session recordings. It says its Economics tutors are certified IB examiners who have marked real IB papers, and that schedules are set to Singapore time for both the May and November sessions. It offers IA help from article choice to applying theory and evaluation.

Suits: a student at an international school who wants a one-to-one tutor matched quickly and taught online. May not suit: a student who wants a group class or face-to-face lessons, since only online one-to-one is offered.

Fees as published: from S$80 an hour. Packages start from S$325 for 5 sessions, S$720 for 12 sessions, from about S$1,100 for 18 sessions plus 1 extra, and from about S$2,200 for 36 sessions plus 3 extra. The FAQ describes the packages in hours and the price cards in sessions, and lesson length is not stated, so ask what one session covers. A consultation is offered at no charge, and the provider states a full refund if you are unhappy after the first session.

Base: online only. Its registered address is in Ontario, Canada.

Website: plusplustutors.com

Ask at the trial: How long is one session in each package? Has this tutor marked IB Economics papers, and which ones? Does the tutor know my child's school calendar for IA deadlines?

Ancourage Academy

What is distinctive. Ancourage runs IB Economics as separate courses for DP1 and DP2, at SL and HL, in groups capped at 6 students and usually 3 to 6. Each lesson is a weekly 2-hour class, and all notes and worksheets are included. Its DP2 HL course covers the HL depth on top of SL, including quantitative methods. The founder and academic director, Min Hui, is the educator named on the course page.

Suits: a north or central student who wants a small group and the option of online lessons. May not suit: a family that wants to compare fees before calling, since IB fees are quoted on request.

Fees as published: not published for IB. Fees depend on level and are sold in packages of 4, 12 or 24 lessons, with larger packages cheaper per lesson. There are no registration, material or admin fees. The standard trial price is S$18.

Branches: 152 Bishan St 11, #01-215 (near Bishan MRT). Vista Point, 548 Woodlands Drive 44, #02-16 (near Woodlands South MRT). Online classes are offered.

Website: ancourage.academy

Ask at the trial: What is the monthly fee for DP2 HL Economics? Are HL and SL students in the same group? How are IA commentaries practised?

ETG (Economics at Tuitiongenius)

What is distinctive. ETG teaches IB Economics at SL and HL for Year 5 and Year 6, and IB students are never placed in A-Level classes. SL students sit in the HL class and are told which lessons to skip. Every lesson is recorded and can be replayed while enrolled, and the fee includes 11 IB textbooks and workbooks written in-house. The founder, Mr Eugene Toh, holds an MSc in Applied Economics from SMU and a BA in Economics from NUS, and the site names a Head of IB Economics, Ms Cherilyn, and two other tutors. IA help comes through AI tools, tutor consults or paid one-to-one sessions, and IA lessons sit in Year 5. The centre states that over 95% of its IB students in recent cohorts scored a 7, self-reported by students.

Suits: a student at a Bukit Timah or central school who wants a steady weekly class and recordings to revise from. May not suit: an SL student who wants a class pitched only at SL, since SL and HL share one class.

Fees as published: S$120 a lesson for Year 5 or Year 6, on site or on live Zoom, with all materials and LMS access included. Signing up with friends takes S$50 a term off with one friend, S$100 for a group of 3 and S$150 for a group of 4. One-to-one is S$150 to S$250 an hour at Bukit Timah, Kovan, Pasir Ris or online. The 2027 timetable lists Year 6 on Friday 5pm to 7pm and Year 5 on Friday 7pm to 9pm. A trial class is at no charge, subject to availability.

Branch: Coronation Plaza, 587 Bukit Timah Road (Tan Kah Kee MRT is the closest station). Group IB classes run here only.

Website: tuitiongenius.com

Ask at the trial: How many students are in the Year 5 Friday class? How much of each lesson is HL only? Which IA help is included, and which is paid?

IB Lounge

What is distinctive. IB Lounge is an IB tuition provider whose tutors are recent IB graduates. Its Economics page lists 10 tutors with their schools, such as ACS (Independent), SJI, UWCSEA East and GIIS, their IB totals, and whether they teach HL or SL. It states that every Economics tutor sat the IBDP exam in the subject and scored a 7. Lessons cover Paper 1, 2 and 3 technique, with past-paper work and WhatsApp access to the tutor during the week.

Suits: a student who wants a tutor who sat the same papers recently. May not suit: a family that wants a long-serving teacher, published fees or a known venue, since the site publishes none of these.

Fees as published: not published. Lesson length, class size, format and location are not published. A trial class can be booked, at a price not published.

Branch: not published.

Website: iblounge.org

Ask at the trial: What is the fee per hour, and is the lesson one-to-one or a group? Where are lessons held? How many years has this tutor been teaching?

KS Academia Prep

What is distinctive. KS Academia Prep runs IB Economics SL and HL as separate single-level classes for Grade 11 and Grade 12, with timetables for both the May and November exam sessions. Its published timetable lists 11 weekly IB Economics slots across Wednesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday, all taught by Jason Low, its Head of Economics. He has an NUS Industrial and Systems Engineering degree with honours and over 14 years of tutoring and marking against IB and IGCSE mark schemes, and offers IA and EE mentoring. Other named tutors include Karen Chen and Kirby Ng, who teaches IB Economics in Mandarin. The centre states that four of the students shown on its page scored a 7 in IB Economics.

Suits: an international school student on the May session, or anyone who wants HL Paper 3 in an HL-only class. May not suit: a student who wants a group smaller than 10.

Fees as published: group classes are S$440 to S$520 a month, with no sign-up fee and all materials included. Each class runs 2 hours. One-to-one costs more, at a rate not published. The trial is a paid lesson with no commitment, at a price not published.

Branch: Far East Shopping Centre, #15-06, 545 Orchard Road (Orchard MRT, Exit E, about 5 minutes' walk). Most classes can be attended online.

Website: ksacademiaprep.com.sg

Ask at the trial: How many lessons a month does the fee cover? Which tutor takes my child's slot all year? How does IA mentoring work without touching the real draft?

Learningminds Education

What is distinctive. Learningminds is run by Ms Ho Sern Ling, who taught at the IBDP section of Anglo-Chinese School (Independent) and at Temasek Junior College, with over 20 years of teaching. Her profile describes her as an experienced IB Economics examiner for HL Paper 2 and the extended essay, and a presiding examiner for the November 2009 session. Recent programmes listed on the site include HL exam intensives, HL revision and mock exams for Papers 1, 2 and 3, several of them online.

Suits: an HL student who wants teaching from someone who has marked IB Economics. May not suit: a family that wants a fixed 2027 timetable before signing up, since only past programmes are listed.

Fees as published: group tuition for 2 to 6 students is S$520 a month for 4 lessons, pro-rated in a 5-lesson month, with no deposit. A one-time S$150 registration and materials fee applies. One-to-one weekly classes are S$165 an hour, and home tuition is S$200 an hour, each in 2-hour lessons. Group fees are payable whether or not your child attends. Group lesson length and trial terms are not published. Past group sessions on the site ran 2 hours.

Branch: 1 Tanglin Road, #03-01, Orchard Rendezvous Hotel (Orchard Boulevard MRT is the closest station). Some programmes are online.

Website: learningminds.sg

Ask at the trial: How long is each group lesson, and how many students are in it? Is there a 2027 weekly class or only intensives? Is a trial possible before paying the registration fee?

Photon Academy

What is distinctive. Photon Academy's IB Economics programme is taught by Ms Bea, who holds an MA in Economics and has lectured at universities in the US and Tokyo. Groups are capped at 4 students, and lessons are 1.5 hours, in person or online. IA help is included in every programme, covering article choice, applying concepts, evaluation and the mark scheme. Online students get the same materials, WhatsApp help and recorded lessons. The centre states that over 90% of its students who attended regular weekly lessons scored a 6 or 7.

Suits: a student who wants the smallest group here, or one-to-one at a monthly price. May not suit: a family looking for the lowest hourly cost, since its group rate is one of the higher figures here.

Fees as published: group lessons are S$480 for 4 lessons a month, and one-to-one is S$600 for 4 lessons a month, subject to tutor availability. Fees are pro-rated, and make-up sessions are offered. Registration fees are not published. Trial classes are offered with no commitment, at a price not published.

Branch: 5 Tank Road, #04-03 Nagarathar Building (Fort Canning MRT).

Website: ibtuition.sg

Ask at the trial: Is the one-to-one lesson also 1.5 hours? Are HL and SL students in the same group of 4? Is the trial charged?

The Econs Don

What is distinctive. The Econs Don lists four separate IB Economics slots: Year 5 SL, Year 5 HL, Year 6 SL and Year 6 HL. The head coach, Mr Don Chng, scored 43 of 45 in the IB in 2012 with 90 of 100 in Economics, is an NUS Business School graduate and has taught A-Level, IB and IGCSE Economics for over 7 years. The site says The Econs Don is now part of ThatEconsTutor. IA support covers the three-commentary portfolio, from article choice to structure and evaluation.

Suits: a student who wants a class at exactly their year and level. May not suit: a family that wants a fixed class size and trial policy in writing, since its pages give different figures for both.

Fees as published: S$560 for 4 classes of 2 hours, pro-rated. The listed slots are Year 5 SL on Friday 3pm to 4.30pm and Year 5 HL on Thursday 5.30pm to 7.30pm at Goldhill Plaza, Year 6 SL on Wednesday 6.15pm to 8.15pm at Bukit Timah Shopping Centre, and Year 6 HL on Tuesday 5pm to 7pm at Goldhill Plaza. The Year 5 SL slot is 1.5 hours, so ask whether its fee is lower. Class size is given as under 8, capped at 6 and up to 10 on different pages. The IB page offers a trial class at no charge, while the home page describes a pro-rated paid trial. Registration fees are not published.

Branches: Goldhill Plaza (Novena MRT is the closest station) and Bukit Timah Shopping Centre (Beauty World MRT). Classes can also be taken online.

Website: theeconsdon.com

Ask at the trial: How many students are in my child's slot? Is the trial charged? Does Mr Don teach this class himself?

The Economics Tutor

What is distinctive. IB Economics HL and SL run as separate streams, and IB students are never mixed with A-Level students. HL classes cover Paper 3 and its quantitative work. The principal tutor, Kelvin Hong, teaches every group lesson and has over 26 years of experience. He holds First Class Honours in Economics from NUS, was a PSC scholar and served four years in the Administrative Service. Each week is a 2-hour live lesson plus about 30 minutes of concept videos. IA coaching covers article choice, evaluation and commentary structure, and extended essay consultations run one-to-one. The centre states that 90% to 100% of its students score a 7.

Suits: an HL student who wants Paper 3 taught as its own class, with a choice of four centres or Google Meet. May not suit: a student who wants the lowest fee, since the mini group is one of the higher hourly costs here.

Fees as published: small group of 8 to 12, S$480 per 4 lessons. Mini group of 3 to 6, S$660 per 4 lessons. A 5th lesson in a month is pro-rated. Registration is S$80 once and materials are S$120 a semester, with no deposit. The IB page lists one-to-one at S$150 to S$220 an hour, while the fees page lists S$130 to S$240. The IB page describes a 1-month trial of 4 paid lessons, and the fees page a half-month paid trial. Either way, if your child does not continue, the registration fee and half the materials fee are refunded.

Branches: Novena or Newton (Hotel Royal), Bishan Central, Bukit Timah (Bukit Timah Shopping Centre) and Eunos (Centropod), plus live online on Google Meet. The site says all centres are near MRT stations but does not name them.

Website: theeconomicstutor.com

Ask at the trial: Which centre has a Year 6 HL mini group slot? Is the trial two lessons or four? How are practice commentaries marked?

TutorChase

What is distinctive. TutorChase runs an IB Economics tutor page for Singapore, with lessons taught mostly online on its own platform for diagrams, essays and annotations. The page lists six Economics tutors with their degrees and years of experience, from 4 to 11 years, and several list IA commentary help. Tutoring includes access to its IB resources platform.

Suits: a student who wants one-to-one at the lowest published hourly rate, or flexible online slots. May not suit: a student who wants a face-to-face class, since lessons are mainly online.

Fees as published: S$60 to S$200 an hour, depending on the tutor. Package terms, lesson length and trial terms are not published.

Base: online, with a listed address at 15 Beach Road.

Website: ibeconomicstutor.sg

Ask at the trial: Which tutor would teach my child, and at what hourly rate? Has the tutor taught the current syllabus with Paper 3? Can the same tutor stay for both years?

What IB Economics actually tests

Before you choose a tutor, it helps to know what the course is graded on. These facts are from the IBO's own subject briefs and exam schedules for the current course, first assessed in 2022. For a wider view of the diploma, see our IB tuition comparison.

  • Teaching time: 150 hours at SL and 240 hours at HL.
  • Four units: introduction to economics, microeconomics, macroeconomics, and the global economy.
  • Paper 3 is HL only. It is a policy paper of two compulsory questions, each worth 30 marks.
  • The IA is a portfolio of three commentaries, each on a news article from a different unit of the syllabus, and each no longer than 800 words. Examiners do not read beyond 800 words.
ComponentWhat it isTimeSL weightHL weight
Paper 1Extended response essay1 hour 15 minutes30%20%
Paper 2Data response1 hour 45 minutes40%30%
Paper 3Policy paper, HL only1 hour 45 minutesNot sat30%
Internal assessmentPortfolio of three commentaries20 teaching hours30%20%
How much of the final grade is the IA portfolio
  • SL internal assessment0 to 30 %30% of the SL grade
  • HL internal assessment0 to 20 %20% of the HL grade
  • HL Paper 30 to 30 %30% of the HL grade

A worked example shows why the IA matters more at SL. Take a student who scores 60% on every written paper and 80% on the portfolio. At SL, the weighted total is 18 (Paper 1) plus 24 (Paper 2) plus 24 (IA), which is 66%. At HL, it is 12 plus 18 plus 18 (Paper 3) plus 16 (IA), which is 64%. The strong portfolio lifts the SL student more, so an SL student should not leave the commentaries to the last term. For an HL student, Paper 3 carries as much weight as Paper 2, which is why a class that teaches it separately is worth asking for.

The IBO's exam schedules have listed HL Paper 3 at 1 hour 45 minutes. The shorter 1-hour version in 2021 and 2022 was a pandemic change and no longer applies. If a centre still drills one Paper 3 question in an hour, it is teaching to an old format.

In Singapore, ACS (Independent), St. Joseph's Institution, the School of the Arts and the Singapore Sports School sit the November session, while many international schools sit in May. KS Academia Prep and ++tutors say they plan around both sessions, and ETG offers May-session students from one school a separate group of 4 or more.

What a tutor may and may not do with the IA

Most providers above advertise IA help. The IBO's academic integrity policy names private tutors among the people a student must not get help from in completing or editing their work. Use this to judge any offer.

IA help that stays inside the IB's rules, and help that does not

  • FineTeach the skillsChoosing a usable article, drawing and explaining diagrams, linking to a key concept, evaluating.
  • FineExplain the criteriaSo your child can judge their own commentary against them.
  • FineMark a practice commentaryA mock commentary on a different article.
  • FineAnswer referencing questionsThe policy allows students to ask teachers or tutors for guidance on referencing.
  • Not allowedEdit the real commentaryWork heavily edited by a third party can be given zero marks for that component.
  • Not allowedWrite any part of itWork produced by a third party can lead to no grade in the subject.

A worked example: The Economics Tutor's small group at S$480 for four 2-hour lessons is S$480 a month. A full-time tutor at S$80 an hour for one 2-hour lesson a week is S$640 for four lessons. A centre's own one-to-one hour is higher than either: S$150 to S$250 at ETG and S$165 at Learningminds, as published. Online one-to-one through TutorChase starts lower, from S$60 an hour.

If your child also takes A-Level style Economics elsewhere, or you are comparing routes, our Economics tuition centres comparison covers H1 and H2 classes, and our IGCSE vs O-Level and IB vs A-Level guide compares the two pathways.

How to choose IB Economics tuition

  1. Start from the levelHL students need Paper 3 practice every few weeks. Ask whether HL and SL share a class, and how much class time Paper 3 gets.
  2. Check the exam sessionSingapore IP and specialised schools sit in November, many international schools in May. Pick a class that runs to your child's session.
  3. Plan the IA earlyThe portfolio is 30% at SL and 20% at HL. Ask how commentary skills are taught on practice articles, not the real ones.
  4. Compare cost per hourTurn every quote into an hourly cost, then add registration, materials and any deposit. Our table does this for published fees.
  5. Ask who teachesA named teacher who stays all year matters more than a centre's headline result claim.
  6. Review after a monthCompare the next school test or mock with the last. If nothing has moved after 6 to 8 lessons, ask for a plan or switch.

Common questions

How much does IB Economics tuition cost in Singapore?

Among the providers that published fees on 8 November 2026, group IB Economics classes cost about S$55 to S$83 an hour, such as S$480 to S$660 for four lessons. One-to-one runs from S$60 an hour online to S$250 an hour at a centre.

What is the best IB Economics tuition centre in Singapore?

There is no single best one. The Economics Tutor and KS Academia Prep teach HL and SL in separate classes, Learningminds Education is run by a former IB examiner, Photon Academy has the smallest groups, and ETG records every lesson.

Which IB Economics classes teach HL and SL separately?

The Economics Tutor, KS Academia Prep and The Econs Don publish separate HL and SL classes. At ETG, SL students join the HL class and skip the HL-only lessons.

Do I need HL Paper 3 tuition?

Paper 3 is worth 30% of the HL grade, the same as Paper 2, and is a policy paper of two 30-mark questions in 1 hour 45 minutes. A student who loses marks there gains most from a class or tutor that practises it on the current format.

How much is the IB Economics IA worth?

The portfolio of three commentaries is 30% of the SL grade and 20% of the HL grade. Each commentary is on a different unit and has an 800-word limit.

Can a tutor help with the IB Economics IA?

A tutor can teach commentary skills, explain the criteria and mark practice commentaries on other articles. The IBO's policy names private tutors among the help a student must not get with completing or editing the real work.

Which providers offer a trial lesson?

ETG offers a trial at no charge, subject to availability. Ancourage Academy's standard trial is S$18, KS Academia Prep's trial is paid, and The Economics Tutor refunds the registration fee and half the materials fee if you stop after its paid trial.

Is online IB Economics tuition worth it?

It suits a student who wants a specific tutor or flexible hours. TutorChase lists one-to-one from S$60 an hour and ++tutors from S$80, and several centres above also stream their group classes.

Is one-to-one better than a centre for IB Economics?

One-to-one follows one student's level, exam session and weakest paper. It costs S$45 to S$130 an hour on our IB rate card, against about S$55 to S$83 for the published group classes above.

Are these providers paid to be listed?

No. We chose them by the criteria above and took every fact from each provider's own website on 8 November 2026.
