JC admission 2027: L1R5, JC cut-off points and JAE dates

Short answer
To apply to a junior college in the 2027 JAE, your child needs a gross L1R5 of 20 or better plus the subject requirements. The 2026 O-Level results are due on 13 to 15 January 2027 (tentative), the JAE application opens at 4pm on results day, and posting results are due at 9am on 2 February 2027 (tentative).

Who can apply to a JC in 2027
- A gross L1R5 of 20 or better. L1 is English or Higher Mother Tongue, R1 a humanities subject, R2 a Maths or science subject, R3 another humanities, Maths or science subject, and R4 and R5 the best two others.
- The subject requirements MOE sets for JC, listed on its JC and MI page.
- Bonus points, such as CCA or choosing an affiliated JC, lower the net L1R5 used for posting, but the 20-point limit applies to the gross score.
- Millennia Institute, a 3-year A-Level course, uses L1R4 with a limit of 20.
Choosing the 12 JAE choices
Students are posted in order of net aggregate, best first, to the choices they listed. A score inside last year's range is not a place this year: ranges move as each year's applicants change, and MOE publishes the 2027 ranges only on posting day.
Spread the list. Put the courses your child most wants first, include several whose 2026 cut-off was a few points weaker than the score, and add polytechnic courses if a JC place is not certain.

Getting ready for JC1
JC1 moves fast. H2 Maths in particular builds on A-Math, so a student who scraped through A-Math should revise functions, trigonometry and calculus before term starts. Promotional exams at the end of JC1 decide progression to JC2.
What changes from 2028
Students who sit the SEC in 2027 apply in the 2028 Post-Secondary Admissions Exercise, where JC entry uses L1R4 with a limit of 16, and every counted subject must be at G3.

Common questions
What L1R5 do I need for JC in 2027?
A gross L1R5 of 20 or better, plus MOE's subject requirements. Each JC's actual cut-off is lower. In the 2026 JAE, Science cut-offs ran from 3 to 18 on net L1R5.
Are bonus points counted in the 20-point limit?
No. The limit applies to the gross L1R5. Bonus points give the net L1R5, which is used for posting.
When will the 2027 JC cut-off points be known?
MOE adds the 2027 JAE ranges to SchoolFinder on posting results day, due on 2 February 2027 (tentative).
What if the L1R5 is above 20?
Your child cannot apply to a JC in the 2027 JAE, but may qualify for Millennia Institute on L1R4 or for polytechnic courses on ELR2B2.
