JC Cut-Off Points 2027: Every JC's L1R5 Range

Written by Dion Tan · Reviewed by Theon Teo, Founder · editorial policy

MOE's official reference for the 2027 JAE is each JC's net L1R5 range from the 2026 JAE. The last students admitted to Science courses had net scores from 3 at Hwa Chong and Raffles to 18 at Yishun Innova. To apply, you need a gross L1R5 of 20 or better. The 2027 ranges come out on 2 February 2027 (tentative).

Updated 26 October 2026. Every figure below is copied from MOE's 2027 JAE course list, read that day. Ranges are from the 2026 JAE.

Third-party JC tables often disagree with each other. This one uses only MOE's figures, says which year they are from, and links the source so you can check every number.

What are the JC cut-off points for 2027?

The table shows each JC's net L1R5 range for the 2026 JAE. The second number is the net L1R5 of the last student admitted, which is what most parents call the cut-off point. The source is MOE's Courses offered in 2027 JAE (PDF).

*MOE's note: the last student posted to Yishun Innova JC's Arts course had a net L1R5 better than 20, but the course still had vacancies after posting, so the cut-off is shown as 20, because it could have admitted a JC-eligible student with 20.

Each course also has a code (for example 24S for Hwa Chong's Science course), which MOE lists in the same PDF.

Two schools take JAE students only for the International Baccalaureate Diploma, also on L1R5:

Anglo-Chinese School (Independent)51I2 to 5
St. Joseph's Institution52I2 to 6

Millennia Institute runs a 3-year A-Level course and uses L1R4, not L1R5:

*MOE gives the same note: the Commerce and Science courses had vacancies after posting, so the cut-off is shown as 20.

How did the cut-off points move from 2025 to 2026?

Comparing MOE's last two lists shows how much a cut-off can move in a year. Of the 37 courses, 12 needed a score 1 point better in 2026 than in 2025, 4 moved the other way and 21 did not change. The 2025 figures are from MOE's Courses offered in 2026 JAE list.

*MOE's note: the course still had vacancies after posting, so the cut-off is shown as 20. Millennia Institute uses L1R4, so its figures are not comparable with the JC ranges.

The pattern matters more than any single row. Most courses moved by a point or not at all, which is why MOE treats one year's range as a guide rather than a promise.

Which JCs change campus during the 2027 intake?

Four colleges move during the two years a 2027 JC1 student is there, so a student entering in February 2027 will spend JC2 on a new or returned campus. MOE's SchoolFinder lists the moves:

CollegeNowFrom
Anderson Serangoon JCTemporary site, 1033 Upper Serangoon Road4500 Ang Mo Kio Avenue 6, December 2027
Temasek JCTemporary site, 2 Tampines Avenue 922 Bedok South Road, December 2027
Jurong Pioneer JC21 Teck Whye Walk800 Corporation Road, January 2028 (tentative)
Yishun Innova JC3 Yishun Ring Road21 Champions Way, January 2028 (tentative)

Catholic JC will move to a new campus near Punggol Digital District, which MOE says is tentatively due to open in 2034, well after the 2027 intake has left.

How do you read an L1R5 range?

  • Lower is better. A range of 2 to 5 means the best student posted had a net L1R5 of 2 and the last had 5.
  • Net, not gross. Net L1R5 is the gross L1R5 minus bonus points. The ranges are net figures.
  • Arts and Science differ. A JC can have different ranges for its Arts and Science courses, so compare the course you will apply for.
  • They are a reference only. MOE says the 2026 figures "do not guarantee admission". The 2027 ranges depend on the 2026 O-Level results and the choices students make in the 2027 JAE.

Work out your child's gross L1R5 first with our L1R5 and L1R4 calculator. How the JAE works as a whole is in our JAE glossary entry.

What do you need to apply to a JC in 2027?

MOE's JAE page for JCs and MI sets two conditions: a gross L1R5 of 20 or better, and the grade requirements below. L1R5 is English or Higher Mother Tongue, plus a Humanities subject, a Mathematics or Science subject, one more from those groups and the two best other subjects. Our JAE guide walks through each part.

SubjectGrade needed
English LanguageA1 to C6
Mathematics or Additional MathematicsA1 to D7
Mother Tongue LanguageA1 to D7 (Higher MTL A1 to E8, 'B' syllabus Merit or Pass)

Religious Knowledge cannot count, and Higher Mother Tongue and Mother Tongue of the same language cannot both be used. A student who misses a grade requirement can still be admitted conditionally with a gross L1R5 of 15 or better, or 16 to 20 with A1 or A2 in all five relevant subjects. They must then reach the required grade by the end of JC1.

How do bonus points change your net L1R5?

Bonus points are subtracted from the gross L1R5. In the 2027 JAE the total is capped at 4.

BonusPoints
CCA grade Excellent2
CCA grade Good1
English and Higher Mother Tongue, both A1 to C62
Chinese or Malay (Special Programme), or Bahasa Indonesia, A1 to C62
Affiliated JC, as 1st choice (or 1st and 2nd choices)2

A further 2 points apply for students who apply for and are posted to a JC's Chinese, Malay or Tamil Language Elective Programme. So a student with a gross L1R5 of 9, a CCA grade of Excellent and A1 to C6 in English and Higher Chinese has a net L1R5 of 5. That is at or better than the 2026 Science cut-off point of 14 of the 16 schools in the table, though a student on exactly the cut-off can still lose out on tie-breakers.

The dates are from MOE's JAE page and national exams dates page. We will add the 2027 ranges to this table on posting results day. If your child is weighing a polytechnic too, our poly cut-off points guide uses the same MOE list, and our JC or poly guide covers the choice itself.

What changes for JC admission from 2028?

The 2027 JAE is for students who sat the 2026 O-Level. Students sitting the SEC in 2027 apply in the new Post-Secondary Admissions Exercise in 2028, on different rules. MOE's PSE page for JC and MI sets a gross L1R4 of 16 or better for JC, every counted subject at G3, and bonus points capped at 3. L1R5 ranges do not translate directly into L1R4 cut-off points. The detail is in our L1R4 guide for 2028, and the exam itself in our SEC 2027 guide.

How should you use these ranges?

Use them to sort JCs into ones your child is likely to clear, ones that are close, and ones that are a stretch, then list choices in true order of preference. A range is last year's result, not this year's cut-off. MOE says the 2027 figures depend on that year's results and choices, so they can move in either direction.

JC1 starts on 3 February 2027 and the pace picks up quickly. If your child would like support from the first week of term, we arrange H2 Math tuition and other JC tuition, at home or online.

Common questions

What is the L1R5 cut-off for JC in 2027?

To apply, your gross L1R5 must be 20 or better. Each JC's actual cut-off depends on that year's applicants. In the 2026 JAE, the last students admitted had net scores from 3 to 18 for Science courses.

Which JC had the lowest cut-off point in 2026?

Hwa Chong Institution and Raffles Institution, both 2 to 3 for Science and 2 to 5 for Arts. Eunoia JC was 2 to 5 for Science and 2 to 6 for Arts.

Are these the 2027 cut-off points?

No. They are the 2026 JAE ranges, which MOE publishes as the reference for the 2027 JAE. MOE adds the 2027 ranges to SchoolFinder on posting results day, 2 February 2027 (tentative).

Do the ranges include bonus points?

Yes. They are net L1R5 ranges, which is the gross L1R5 minus bonus points such as CCA, affiliation and Higher Mother Tongue.

What L1R5 do you need for Millennia Institute?

Millennia Institute uses L1R4, not L1R5. The gross L1R4 must be 20 or better. In the 2026 JAE its courses ranged from 9 or 10 up to 20.

Is there still a JAE in 2028?

Students who sit the SEC in 2027 apply through the Post-Secondary Admissions Exercise in 2028, with L1R4 of 16 or better for JC. The 2027 JAE is for the 2026 O-Level cohort.
