What if my child's tutor is not a good fit?
Reviewed by Theon Teo, Founder · Last checked · How we check facts
Short answer
If a tutor is not a good fit, tell us what is not working and we send another shortlist at no charge. With The Singapore Syllabus there is no contract and no minimum number of lessons, so you can stop after any lesson with 24 hours' notice, and you only pay for lessons that took place.
Signs the fit is wrong
Give it a few lessons unless something is clearly wrong. Results rarely move in the first two weeks, but a child's confidence and the clarity of the plan should.
- Your child dreads the lessons or cannot follow the explanations after several weeks.
- Lessons repeat what school already did, without working on your child's mistakes.
- There is no plan, and you cannot tell what the last month covered.
- Timing keeps clashing, or lessons are often moved at short notice.
Talk to the tutor first if it is small
Some problems are easy to fix. If lessons feel too slow, or you want more exam practice, say so. A good tutor adjusts. If the problem is the way the tutor explains, or your child does not get on with them, a new tutor is usually the better answer.
How a re-match works
- Tell us on WhatsApp what did not work, for example the pace, the teaching style or timing.
- We send a new shortlist of tutor profiles at no charge, chosen with that in mind.
- You pick the next tutor. Their first lesson works like the first trial.
- Let the old tutor know you are stopping, with 24 hours' notice before any booked lesson.
What to tell us so the next match is better
Specific detail helps most. "Too fast for my child, who needs worked examples first" or "needs someone stricter about homework" or "only free after 7pm on weekdays" lets us shortlist tutors who fit. You can also ask for a full-time tutor or an ex-MOE teacher, or a female or male tutor.
What it costs
The re-match itself is free. You pay only for lessons that took place, at the tutor's hourly rate, and the next tutor's first lesson is charged at their rate as usual.

Common questions
Is there a limit on re-matches?
Re-matching is free when the fit is wrong. Telling us clearly what did not work is the best way to make the next match the right one.
Do I need to explain to the tutor why we are stopping?
A short, polite message is enough, with 24 hours' notice before any booked lesson. You can leave the detail to us.
Will my child lose time while we find a new tutor?
We send a new shortlist quickly, and the new tutor can start from the latest school paper so little time is lost.
Want a tutor shortlist?
Tell us the level and subject. We send 3 to 12 tutor profiles with their rates within 16 hours, and you choose. No contract and no minimum number of lessons.
