How much is home tuition per month in Singapore in 2027?

Reviewed by Theon Teo, Founder · Last checked · How we check facts

Short answer

A month of home tuition in Singapore costs the hourly rate times the hours in that month. In 2027, one 1.5-hour lesson a week for 4 weeks costs about S$150 to S$210 at P1 to P4 with a part-time tutor, S$240 to S$330 at P5 and P6 with a full-time tutor, and S$390 to S$540 at JC with a full-time tutor.

Monthly cost by level, 1.5 hours a week

These figures multiply our published hourly bands by 6 hours, which is one 1.5-hour lesson a week in a 4-lesson month. A month with 5 lesson days costs a quarter more.

How to work out your own month

Example: a full-time P5 tutor at S$45 an hour for 1.5 hours a week is S$67.5 a lesson and S$270 for a 4-lesson month.

  • Pick the hourly rate on the tutor's profile.
  • Multiply by the length of each lesson, for example 1.5 hours.
  • Multiply by the number of lessons that month, usually 4, sometimes 5.
  • Add a second subject the same way if your child has two tutors.

What makes a month cost more or less

The 2027 school year runs from 4 January to 19 November in four 10-week terms, so a family that keeps weekly lessons through the school terms books about 40 lessons a year.

  • The level: JC rates are about double the lower primary rates.
  • The tutor type: an ex-MOE teacher costs about twice a part-time tutor at the same level.
  • The weekly hours: exam years often move from 1.5 to 2 hours a week.
  • Holidays: lessons can pause during school holidays or carry on, as you agree with the tutor.

Are there other fees?

Parents pay only the tutor's hourly rate shown on the shortlist. There is no contract and no minimum number of lessons. The first lesson is a paid trial at the tutor's rate, and cancelling or rescheduling needs 24 hours' notice, or that lesson is charged.

Common questions

Do I pay for lessons that did not happen?

No. Lessons are priced by the hour and you pay for lessons that take place. A lesson cancelled with less than 24 hours' notice is charged.

Is online tuition cheaper per month?

Our rate card uses the same ranges for online and home lessons. Online can still save time on travel, and some families choose shorter, more frequent lessons online.

How do I keep the monthly cost down?

Match the tutor type to the goal. A part-time tutor for steady practice in a non-exam year costs about half what an ex-MOE teacher does, and you can step up in the exam year.
