Gifted Education Programme
The Gifted Education Programme (GEP) is MOE's programme for higher-ability primary pupils, identified through a selection test in Primary 3 and run from Primary 4 to 6. In August 2024, MOE announced that the GEP will be discontinued in its current form from the 2024 Primary 1 cohort, who reach Primary 4 in 2027.
In context
In its place, school-based programmes for higher-ability learners will cover about 10% of each cohort, up from about 7%. The first stage of the Primary 3 GEP selection test is kept and the second stage is dropped. Schools can also use teacher recommendations and students' work, and pupils can be identified at several points from Primary 4 to 6. Those who would benefit further can attend after-school modules at designated nearby schools.
